Four-Eyed Well Introduction
Central Street, Penghu's First Street, and Penghu Old Street, located at the northern end of the street, is commonly known as "Dingjie." It has a historic well known as the "Four-Eyed Well," which has an extremely long history dating back to the mid-Ming Dynasty, over several hundred years. This well was originally a large communal well that supplied water to the residents around Central Street in Magong. The well has never run dry, even during severe droughts in Penghu, consistently providing cool and sweet water for the local community. It is said that the old name of Central Street was "Dajing Street," named after this well. The Four-Eyed Well, also known as the Four-Hole Well, is 5.6 meters deep and 1.8 meters wide. To prevent children and adults from accidentally falling in, the well's opening has been raised. Additionally, to maintain order for fetching water, the well has been divided into four directions with wells covered, each well opening having an inner diameter of exactly 36 centimeters, facing east, west, south, and north, allowing every household to conveniently queue for water. In the past, it served as the source of drinking water for residents in the Central Street area, and it has now transformed into a tourist attraction. 【Recommended Visit Duration】 0.5 hours
