Four-Eyed Well Introduction
Central Street, Penghu's First Street, and Penghu Old Street, located at the northern end of the street, are colloquially known as "Top Street." It features a historic well called the Four-Eyed Well, which dates back to the middle of the Ming Dynasty, making it several hundred years old. This well was originally a large well used by the residents of the Magong Central Street area. The well has always maintained a plentiful supply of water and has never run dry, even during the many severe droughts that Penghu has experienced, continuously providing the residents with refreshing, sweet water. According to legend, the old name of Penghu Central Street was Dajing Street, named after this well. The Four-Eyed Well, also known as the Four-Hole Well or Four-Opening Well, has a depth of 5.6 meters and a width of 1.8 meters. To prevent children and adults from accidentally falling in, the well's opening has been raised. Furthermore, to maintain order when drawing water, the well is divided into four directions, each covered with a wellhead, with an inner diameter of exactly 36 centimeters for each opening facing east, west, south, and north, allowing households to conveniently queue for water. It used to be the source of drinking and living water for the residents of the Central Street area and has now transformed into a tourist attraction. 【Recommended duration of stay】 0.5 hours
