Siyen Well Introduction
Zhongyang Street, the first street in Penghu, is located at the northern end of the street, commonly known as "Ding Street." It features a historic well known as the Four-Eyed Well, which has a very long history dating back to the mid-Ming Dynasty, over several hundred years. This well was originally a large well used by the people of Magong Central Street. The well has an abundant water supply that has never run dry, even during several severe droughts in Penghu, continuously providing refreshing and sweet water for the residents. According to legend, Central Street in Penghu was formerly known as Big Well Street due to this well. The Four-Eyed Well, also called the Four-Hole Well, is 5.6 meters deep and 1.8 meters wide. To prevent children and adults from accidentally falling in, the wellhead was raised. To maintain order for water collection, the well was divided into four directions, each covered with a well opening, with an inner diameter of exactly 36 centimeters for each wellhead, allowing families to conveniently line up for water. In the past, it was the source of drinking water for residents in the Central Street area, and it has now transformed into a tourist attraction. [Suggested stay time] 0.5 hours.
