Siyuan Well Introduction
Zhongyang Street, also known as the first street of Penghu and Penghu Old Street, is located at the northern end of the street, commonly referred to as "Ding Street." It features a historic well known as the "Four-Eyed Well," which has a very long history dating back to the mid-Ming Dynasty, approximately several hundred years ago. This well was originally a large well serving the people of the Magong Zhongyang Street area. It has always had an abundant water supply and has never run dry, even through numerous droughts in Penghu, continuously providing cool and sweet water for the residents. According to legend, Zhongyang Street was formerly named "Dajing Street" due to this well. The Four-Eyed Well, also known as the "Four-Hole Well" or "Four-Cavity Well," is 5.6 meters deep and 1.8 meters wide. To prevent children and adults from accidentally falling in, the well opening has been raised. To maintain an orderly water collection process, the well is divided into four directions with covered openings, each with a diameter of 36 centimeters, arranged to the east, west, south, and north, allowing families to easily queue for water. In the past, it was the source of drinking and daily water for the residents of the Zhongyang Street area, and it has now transformed into a tourist attraction. 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours.
