Lover's Lake Park Introduction
Lovers Lake Park is located on the hillside of Dawulun Mountain in the outer Liao Li of Keelung City. It is formed by the confluence of six small streams and is the only highland lake in Keelung. Although the lake surface is not very wide, the scenery is exquisitely beautiful, reminiscent of a delicate gem. The surrounding area is densely wooded, with green waters reflecting the mountain scenery, creating a refreshing and pleasant environment. During spring and summer, the area is alive with the sounds of insects and birds, colorful butterflies fluttering, and migratory birds passing through, making it a worthwhile natural retreat for visitors. Originally named "Wuchabeibei," it was renamed Lovers Lake due to the frequent activities held by the Keelung Youth Development Association here. The lake area is equipped with facilities including viewing pavilions, a Lovers Bridge, scenic waterfront platforms, windmills, and mountain and lake walking trails. The paths are bordered by lush trees, and various plants showcase seasonal beauty, allowing visitors to enjoy forest bathing while admiring the picturesque lake and mountain scenery. Walking towards the northern side of Lovers Lake, there is a trail leading to a ridge overlooking the sea, where you can see the coastal Aodi Fishing Port and also catch distant views of Keelung Islet and Yehliu Cape, bringing a sense of openness and refreshment. Another story about the name "Lovers Lake" suggests that the area features two connected lakes, large and small, resembling lovers snuggling together, thus acquiring its romantic name. Because of this tale, many newlyweds come to this site for pre-wedding photos, believing that crossing Lovers Bridge while holding hands will bring them good fortune in marriage. The quaintly designed windmills by the lake also enhance the charm of this legend. To the east of Lovers Lake is Fort Dawulun, which is not only the highest peak in the area but also a region of considerable historical significance. The large Fort Dawulun (a national historic site) was built during the Qing Dynasty and is one of the important relics from the Sino-French War. Many of its walls and related buildings have been well-preserved, with ancient banyan trees entwined around them, adding to the historic aura of the area. Lovers Lake Scenic Area is a must-visit destination for tourists, known for its beautiful scenery and fresh air. Nearby attractions such as Fort Dawulun should also be planned into your travel itinerary.
