Lover's Lake Park Introduction
Lover's Lake Park is located on the hillside of Dawulun Mountain in the western outskirts of Keelung City, surrounded by six small streams that converge to form the lake. It is the only highland lake in Keelung. Although the lake surface is not very broad, its scenery is exquisite and beautiful, resembling a small, elegant lady. The area is densely wooded, with emerald-green waters, picturesque mountain and water views, creating a fresh and pleasant atmosphere. During spring and summer, the sounds of insects and birds, fluttering butterflies, and migratory birds can be heard everywhere, making it a worthwhile natural escape for visitors. Lover's Lake was originally named "Wuchabei." It was later renamed due to frequent activities held by the Keelung Youth Corps at the site. The lake area is equipped with facilities such as viewing pavilions, Lover's Suspension Bridge, scenic waterfront platforms, windmills, and mountain and lakeside walking paths. The trails are lined with lush trees and various plants showcasing seasonal beauty. Visitors can enjoy a forest bath while admiring the lake’s scenery, creating a poetic atmosphere. Walking towards the north of Lover's Lake, there are trails leading to ridges overlooking the sea. From the ridge's walkway, one can view the ocean, the neighboring Aodi Fishing Harbor, as well as distant Keelung Islet and Yehliu Cape, bringing a sense of clarity and comfort. Another theory about the name origin of Lover's Lake is that it features two connected lakes—one large and one small—symbolizing lovers leaning against each other in companionship. This has led to a romantic legend that claims the Lover's Bridge on the lake possesses a special magic; couples who walk hand in hand across the bridge will be blessed with good fortune in love. Due to this beautiful legend, many newlyweds intentionally visit to take wedding photos, with the uniquely designed windmills beside the lake adding to the charm of the tale. To the east of Lover's Lake lies Fort Dawulun, which is not only the highest peak in the area but also rich in history. The Dawulun Fort (a national historical site) was built during the reign of the Qing Dynasty and is one of the significant relics left from the Sino-French War. The walls and many related structures have been well-preserved, and the surrounding ancient banyan trees add to the historical ambiance of the area. Lover's Lake Scenic Area is a must-visit for tourists, featuring beautiful scenery and fresh air, along with nearby attractions like Fort Dawulun, making it an excellent addition to your travel itinerary.
