Lover's Lake Park Introduction
Lover's Lake Park is located on the hillside of Dawulun Mountain in the western outskirts of Keelung City, formed by the convergence of six small streams. It is the only highland lake in Keelung. Although the lake surface is not very wide, the scenery is exquisite and beautiful, resembling a little gem. The surrounding area is densely forested, with emerald green waters, picturesque mountains and lakes, providing a refreshing atmosphere. In the spring and summer, the area is filled with the sounds of insects and birds, colorful butterflies, and migratory birds, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers. Lover's Lake was originally named "Wuchabei," but it was later renamed due to the Save the Nation Youth Corps Keelung Group frequently holding activities here. The lake area is equipped with viewing pavilions, a Lover's suspension bridge, scenic water-edge platforms, windmills, a mountain trail, and a lakeside trail. The trails are lined with lush greenery, showcasing seasonal flora while visitors enjoy the forest bath of phytoncides and the scenic beauty of the lake and mountains, creating a poetic atmosphere. Heading to the north side of Lover's Lake, there is a trail that leads up to a marine ridge where visitors can view the ocean. From the ridge trail, not only can people see the nearby Aodi Fishing Port, but they can also gaze upon Keelung Islet and Yehliu Cape, which can lift one's spirits. There is another version of the origin of Lover's Lake's name, which refers to the two connected lakes within the scenic area that resemble lovers leaning against each other for companionship. Additionally, there is a romantic legend associated with Lover's Lake; it is said that the Lover's Bridge has a special magic, and couples who walk hand-in-hand across the bridge will have good marriage fortune. Due to this beautiful legend, many newlyweds come here to take wedding photos, and the uniquely shaped windmills beside Lover's Lake add more charm to this tale. To the east of Lover's Lake is Fort Dawulun, which is not only the highest peak in the nearby area but also a historically significant site. The fort on the summit, which is a national historic site, was built during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty and is one of the important historical relics from the Sino-French War. Many of the surrounding walls and related buildings have been well preserved, and the old banyan trees entangle the area, adding to its ancient charm. The Lover's Lake scenic area is a must-visit for tourists, with its stunning scenery and fresh air, and nearby attractions such as Fort Dawulun are worth including in your travel itinerary.
