Jingtong Old Street Introduction
The most bustling old street in Jing Tong is located right at the exit of Jing Tong Station. In addition to being a Japanese wooden station, the area features the world’s only lantern-shaped building, the "Jing Tong Electronic Sky Lantern Museum," which combines the unique culture of the Pingxi sky lanterns with local landscapes and skylines, resembling a blessing sky lantern standing at the end of Jing Tong Old Street, subtly illuminating as it blesses Pingxi! Next to the old street, there are many wishing bamboo tubes and the "Railway Story Museum," which is a must-visit for railroad enthusiasts. It sells wooden postcards where you can write your blessings and stamp them with unique stamps provided by the store as souvenirs! In the past, the Pingxi District thrived due to coal mining, and although the mines have all ceased operations, there is still the Jing Tong Mining Life Hall, renovated from Taiwan Railways employee dormitories, which thoroughly showcases the development history of Jing Tong mining. As for food, you can experience local specialties that early miners used to eat, such as bento boxes (packed in stainless steel), fried pork wrapped in tofu skin known as chicken rolls, and enjoy charcoal coffee.
