Shuhong Ecological Park Introduction
When the riverbank of Wugu Flood Relief Ecological Park is exposed, it always attracts a large number of waterbirds looking for food. From a distance, the riverbank resembles scattered stones, but upon closer inspection, it reveals a stunning sight of numerous Taiwanese mud crabs, giant mud crabs, and mudskippers. The 324-hectare flood relief channel was originally built for flood control. Initiated by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan to improve the environment of the Erchong Flood Relief Channel while maintaining its flood relief capabilities and environmental protection objectives, a substantial amount of over 1.34 billion NTD was allocated from air pollution fees in March of 1998. The project was commissioned to the New Taipei City Government for the greening and beautification of the Erchong Flood Relief Channel, taking 5 years and 4 months to transform from a dirty and chaotic area into a modern, multifunctional recreational park.
