Houlí Horse Ranch is the most historically significant and largest public racetrack in Taiwan. The first and second stables, along with the main office, were built in 1912, during the first year of the Republic of China, as a horse breeding farm for the Governor-General of Taiwan during the Japanese occupation. After the restoration of Taiwan, it was used for breeding stallions and training cavalry for national defense. With the passage of time, it has transformed into a recreational horse ranch for tourism, while still preserving the well-maintained historical buildings and rustic style from the Japanese colonial period.

Houli Horse Ranch Introduction

The Houli Horse Ranch covers a total area of 14.9628 hectares. In recent years, the city government has undertaken comprehensive renovations of the park and plans to build the Flower Dance Pavilion. Following major events such as the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition and the 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival, in order to sustain tourism and innovate the operation of the park, the Taichung City Government's Tourism and Travel Bureau has commissioned a private agency, Taiwan Recreational Sports Technology Co., Ltd., to operate the Houli Horse Ranch and Flower Dance Pavilion for 10 years. By leveraging the professional management spirit and expertise of private enterprises, a quality recreational space and diverse services will be provided, while effectively managing existing facilities and expanding the multifunctionality of public amenities, creating the largest equestrian education and cultural experience park in Taiwan. Equestrian activities are often regarded as a noble sport; Taiwan Recreational Sports Technology Co., Ltd. aims to develop a "people-friendly" equestrian experience. The historical structures of the horse ranch, including the headquarters and the director's residence from the Japanese colonial era, are being planned as themed restaurants, cafes, cultural and creative shops, and exhibition halls, preserving the elegant Japanese atmosphere and promoting equestrian experiences to the public, fulfilling corporate social responsibility. It is hoped that by combining the expertise of technology companies with diverse recreational service facilities within the park, the Houli Horse Ranch can be transformed into a technology park, creating a flourishing tourism development for the Houli area.
