The Houli Horse Ranch is the most historically significant and largest public horse ranch in Taiwan. The first and second stables and the main headquarters were built in 1912 (the first year of the Republic of China), serving as a horse breeding farm for the Governor-General of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. After the restoration of Taiwan, it became a breeding ground for stallions and a training site for military cavalry. With the changes of the times, it has transformed into a horse ranch that offers tourism and recreational activities, while still preserving the complete historical architecture and rustic style from the Japanese colonial era.

Houli Racecourse Introduction

The Houli Horse Riding Ground covers a total area of 14.9628 hectares. In recent years, the city government has been undertaking overall renovations of the park and plans to build the Flower Dance Hall. Following the success of two major events, the "2018 Taichung World Floral Expo" and the "2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival," in order to sustain tourism and innovate the park's operations, the Taichung City Government's Tourism and Travel Bureau has commissioned a private organization, Taiwan Leisure and Sports Technology Co., Ltd., to operate the Houli Horse Riding Ground and the Flower Dance Hall for 10 years. By leveraging the professionalism of private enterprises, the aim is to provide quality recreational spaces and diverse services, effectively manage existing facilities, and enhance the functionality of public amenities, thus creating the largest equestrian education and cultural experience park in Taiwan. Equestrian sports are often seen as a noble activity, and Taiwan Leisure and Sports Technology Co., Ltd. aims to develop a "people-friendly" approach to equestrianism. Historical sites at the riding ground, such as the headquarters from the Japanese colonial period and the director's dormitory, are being transformed into themed restaurants, cafes, cultural and creative shops, and exhibition halls, preserving the elegant Japanese atmosphere while promoting equestrian experiences to the public, fulfilling corporate social responsibilities. It is anticipated that by integrating the expertise of technology companies with the park's diverse recreational service facilities, the Houli Horse Riding Ground can be developed into a technology park, creating a vibrant tourism development landscape for the Houli area.
