If you take the train along the mountain line and pass through Tai'an Station, keep an eye out the window and you will see a "shell-shaped" building standing by the railway. This is the Taichung Line Earthquake Memorial. This memorial was established to commemorate the strong earthquake that occurred at dawn on April 21, 1935, during the Japanese colonial period, in the middle reaches of the Daan River. This earthquake brought unprecedented disaster to the then state-run Taichung Coastal Line.

This memorial was established to commemorate the strong earthquake that occurred at dawn on April 21, 1935, during the Showa era (10th year of Japanese rule), in the middle reaches of the Daan River. This earthquake brought unprecedented disaster to the then government-run Taichung Coastal Railway.
