Taichung Railway Earthquake Reconstruction Memorial Monument Introduction
If you take the train along the mountain line and pass by the Tai'an Station, be sure to look out the window and you'll notice a "cannon-shaped" structure standing beside the railway. It is the "Taichung Line Earthquake Reconstruction Monument." This monument was erected to commemorate the powerful earthquake that occurred on April 21, 1935, at dawn in the middle reaches of the Daan River during the Japanese occupation. This earthquake inflicted unprecedented disaster on the then-government-operated Taichung Coastal Railway.
