Huludun Cultural Center Introduction
Located on Yuánhuán East Road in Fengyuan District, it is a hub of culture and leisure for the citizens of Taichung City, rich in artistic atmosphere. The cultural center preserves and maintains many important local cultural assets and schedules various artifact exhibitions annually. It also offers guided tours by reservation to introduce and explain the exhibits, facilitating interaction between the cultural center and the public as well as its educational functions. In recent years, a wide variety of interesting cultural activities have also been organized. Greater Taichung spans a vast area, with diverse ethnic groups and rich cultural backgrounds, producing a wealth of artistic talents. This center was formerly known as Taichung City Cultural Center, established in line with the central government's policy to include cultural construction in 12 important projects, with cultural centers set up in each city and county. Planning began at the end of 1978, construction started in August 1980, and it was completed by the end of December 1982, officially opening on New Year's Day 1983, bringing Taichung City’s cultural development into a new realm. Since its establishment, it has emphasized local characteristics, promoted local culture, advocated for a reading culture, and aimed to create a society enriched with books. The center organizes cultural and artistic activities to enhance the public's appreciation level, hosts weekend performance plaza activities to provide proper leisure activities for the public, and establishes a volunteer system to expand participation. It also offers arts and cultural study activities to cultivate talent in the arts. In 1990, the Weaving Arts Museum was set up to preserve and research weaving techniques, organize weaving exhibitions, and reward and train weaving talents. A national weaving craft award is held every two years, and international exchange activities like the "Asia-Pacific Weaving Arts Festival," "Taiwan vs. Okinawa," and "Japanese Kimono Donation Exhibition" are organized, accumulating cultural diplomacy capabilities and experience. On December 25, 2010, Taichung City was upgraded to a municipality, and the center was restructured and named "Huludun Cultural Center" based on the old name of Fengyuan. It is directly governed by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government and is the most important cultural institution in the mountainous area of Greater Taichung.
