Taiping Ancient Farm Museum Introduction
The Taiping Old Farm Museum was opened on October 17, 2010. It is located within the Chelongpu Dingping Park and displays ancient artifacts from Taiwan, which were personally collected over a lifetime by Mr. Zhang Youji, the owner of the farm. In order to preserve the increasingly fading Taiwanese culture and to allow the public to understand the wisdom of their ancestors, Mr. Zhang painfully donated his collection to the Taiping District Office in Taichung City. The museum features a traditional Sanheyuan (three-section compound) architectural style, and it is divided into ten thematic exhibition areas. The central part serves as an ancestral hall, while the two side wings are designated as a bedroom, a bridal dowry and baby items room, and a kitchen display area. The exhibitions on the left and right flanks showcase various items themed around clothing, dishes, electrical appliances, and agricultural tools. The entrance to the Sanheyuan flanks includes a traditional apothecary shop and a small grocery store selling products, while the large number of ancient artifacts is displayed in a rotating exhibition format. The Taiping Old Farm Museum provides a place for the public to reminisce about past folk customs and rural sentiments. The park is home to dozens of maple trees that reach up to fifteen meters tall, providing different scenery with the changing seasons, creating a picturesque blend with the charming museum, resembling a paradise. For someone born and raised in a farming family, the bits and pieces of rural life are always unforgettable, especially during the societal conditions of Taiwan in the 1920s and 1930s, where the hardworking days of large families brought both hardships and exhausted effort. The ancestors labored not only for their survival but for every mouth in the family, working hard from sunrise to simply ensure three warm meals a day, making it evident that the quality of life in agricultural times cannot be compared to the rapid technological advancements of today.
