Mr. Chang You-Chih, the owner, unconditionally donated his lifelong collection of ancient artifacts to the Taiping District Office in Taichung City, in order to let the public understand the wisdom of their ancestors and to ensure the gradually declining Taiwanese culture is passed down. The antique museum, with its classical charm, combined with the changing colors of the sweet gum leaves throughout the seasons, creates a splendid scenery, providing the public with a place to reminisce about traditional customs and local sentiments.

Taipei Ancient Farm Museum Introduction

Taipei Ancient Farm Museum was inaugurated on October 17, 2010, and is located within the Che Long Pu Ding Ping Park. It features a collection of ancient Taiwanese artifacts personally amassed by the owner, Mr. Chang You-ji, throughout his life. In order to preserve the fading Taiwanese culture and to help the public understand the wisdom of their ancestors, he generously donated his collection to the Taichung City Taiping District Office. The museum is designed in a traditional three-section courtyard style, with ten thematic display areas. The central area is dedicated to the ancestral shrine, while the side halls feature a bedroom, a bridal dowry and baby supplies room, and a kitchen display area. The left and right wings showcase various items such as clothing, tableware, electrical appliances, and agricultural tools. The entrance to the wing area includes a traditional herbal medicine shop and a citrus shop, and due to the large number of artifacts, exhibitions are rotated periodically. Taipei Ancient Farm Museum provides a place for the public to reminisce about traditional customs and local sentiments. The park is home to dozens of maple trees that reach heights of fifteen meters, which change their appearance with the seasons, creating a picturesque scene intertwined with the antique museum, resembling a utopia. For someone raised in a farming family, every detail of rural life remains unforgettable, especially during the 1920s and 1930s in Taiwan, when large families endured hardships and struggles, surviving against all odds. Ancestors worked tirelessly for their livelihoods and for every member of the family, hoping for nothing more than to have enough to eat three meals a day. One can imagine how the quality of life during the agricultural era compares to the rapidly changing technological advances of today.
