Taichung City Museum of Fine Arts Introduction

The Taichung Museum of Art is located on the north side of the second floor of the Port District Art Center Exhibition Hall, covering an area of approximately 340 square meters. It was established in 1999 and officially opened in 2001. Through the collection and documentation of works, audio-visual materials, and literature from both historical and contemporary Taiwanese artists, the museum aims to become a cultural base that records the art development history of Greater Taichung in the coastal area. For over 20 years, the museum has continued to collect and display relevant graphic and textual materials by Greater Taichung artists, helping the public understand the context of art development in Greater Taichung, as well as the mentorship relationships, artistic careers, and achievements of the artists. Starting in 2020, the main space of the museum has been transformed into a children's art education space, which includes the following new areas: Art Golden House: This area mainly houses art-related books and, from 2020, has combined with the “Mobile Artist Archive” project (now renamed to “Art PaPaGO!”) to offer art experience courses aimed at cultivating students' appreciation of art. Art Experience Classroom: This section features a "Group Painting Creation Area," "Game Installation Area," "Aesthetic Teaching Wall," and "Art Puzzle Performance Area," providing space for schools and families visiting the museum. Picture Book Story House: This area collects various children's picture books, about 200 in total, through donations of new books and purchasing second-hand books, providing reading materials for families visiting the museum or combining with art experience courses. In 2022, a new "Artist-in-Residence Exhibition Area" was added, inviting registered artists of the museum to showcase selected works and provide art experience courses, aiming to attract more local schools and families to visit the museum for classes. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-17:30 (closed on Mondays and during traditional festivals and Lunar New Year). Address: No. 21, Zhongzheng Rd., Qingshui District, Taichung City.
