Qingshui Veterans Village Cultural Park Introduction
The "Taichung Qing Shui Veteran Village Cultural Park," located across from the Taichung City Harbor Art Center, is the former Air Force housing community Xinyi New Village, recognized by the Ministry of National Defense as one of the 13 "Cultural Preservation Areas for Old Military Dependents' Villages" in the country. The park covers an area of 6.25 hectares, with archaeological sites from the Zhongshe Site beneath the ground, while the above-ground structures consist of a "settlement architectural group," which preserves the organically "grown" architecture of the dependents’ village. In addition to preserving various types of housing for military officers, it retains landscaping and rice field views, with a newly renovated military dependents' building across the street, showcasing various forms of dependents' village styles. Walking through the uneven rooftops and narrow alleys feels like traversing a time tunnel, adding intellectual depth and interest to cultural tourism. The park has been gradually restored in phases in recent years, with the aim of maintaining the living context of the dependents' village, while continuously incorporating elements of the village, art, and archaeological features to nourish this area, translating and presenting the history and emotional memories associated with this space, and recreating a new appearance and culture for the veterans' village.
