The Taichung Qing Shui Veteran Village Cultural Park, located opposite the Taichung Port Art Center, is the former air force veteran residence known as Xinyi New Village. It is one of the 13 "Cultural Preservation Areas for Old Military Villages" approved by the Ministry of National Defense. The park covers an area of 6.25 hectares, with archaeological sites from the Zhongshe period beneath the ground. The above-ground structures form a "settlement architectural group" that preserves the organically "grown" buildings of the veteran village. In addition to preserving various types of military officer residences, it also retains the landscape of greenery and rice fields. Opposite the park, there is a newly reconstructed military veterans' building that embodies various styles of military village types. Walking on the undulating rooftops and narrow alleys feels like traversing a time tunnel, adding intellectual depth and interest to cultural tourism. In recent years, the park has undergone phased renovations, which will continue the context of the veteran village's living space. The distinctive elements of the veteran village, art, and archaeological sites will be preserved and integrated, translating and presenting the historical and emotional memories that occurred in this space, thereby recreating a new appearance and culture for the veteran village.
