The "Taichung Qingshui Military Community Cultural Park," located opposite the Taichung Port Art Center, was originally the Xinyi New Village of the Air Force's military dependents. It is one of the 13 designated "Cultural Preservation Areas for Old Military Dependents' Villages" by the Ministry of National Defense. The park spans 6.25 hectares, with archaeological sites from the Zhongsha culture beneath the ground, and buildings above ground that represent a "settlement architecture group," preserving the organic "growth" of the military dependents’ village structures. In addition to retaining various types of military officer residences, it also preserves plantings and rice field landscapes. Opposite, there is a completed renovation of a military dependents' building that brings together different types of dependent village forms. Walking along the undulating rooftops and narrow alleys feels like traversing a time tunnel, enhancing the intellectual and enjoyable aspects of cultural tourism. In recent years, the park has been gradually restored in phases, and after restoration, it will continue the historical context of the military dependents’ village life, continually nurturing this space with elements of the military dependents’ village, art, and archaeological features, translating and presenting the history and emotional memories that occurred here, and recreating a new landscape and culture for the military dependents’ village.

Qingshui Military Dependents' Village Cultural Park Introduction

The "Taichung Qing Shui Military Village Cultural Park," located opposite the Taichung City Port Arts Center, was originally the Air Force military housing Xin Yi New Village and is one of the 13 "Cultural Preservation Areas for Old Military Villages" approved by the Ministry of National Defense. The park covers an area of 6.25 hectares and has the Zhongshe archaeological site underground. Above ground, the structures form a "settlement architectural group," preserving the organically "grown" buildings of the military village. In addition to conserving various types of officer housing, it also retains vegetation and rice paddy landscapes, while across the street stands a renovated military family building that embodies various styles of military village. Walking along the undulating rooftops and narrow alleys feels like traversing a time tunnel, enhancing the intellectual and entertaining aspects of cultural tourism. In recent years, the park has been gradually restored in phases, maintaining the context of the military village's living space and continually infusing elements of the village, art, and archaeological site into the area. This aims to reinterpret and present the historical and emotional memories once experienced in this space, recreating a new appearance and culture for the military village.
