The "Taichung Qing Shui Military Dependents' Village Cultural Park," located across from the Taichung City Port Art Center, was originally the Xinyi New Village for the Air Force dependents. It is one of the 13 "Cultural Preservation Areas of Old Military Dependents' Villages" designated by the Ministry of National Defense. The park covers an area of 6.25 hectares, with archaeological remains of the Zhongshe site underneath. The buildings above ground form a "settlement architectural complex," retaining the organically "grown" structures of the dependents' village. In addition to preserving various types of military officers' residences, there are also landscaped plants and rice field scenery. Opposite the park is a renovated military dependents' building, which showcases various types of dependents' village architectures. Walking along the undulating rooftops and narrow alleys feels like traversing through a time tunnel, adding to the intellectual and enjoyable aspects of cultural tourism. In recent years, the park has undergone phased restorations, which will continue the context of life in the dependents' village. By integrating the unique elements of the village, art, and archaeological sites, the park aims to translate and present the historical and emotional memories that once occurred in this space, recreating a new appearance and culture for the dependents' village.

Qingshui Military Village Cultural Park Introduction

Located opposite the Taichung City Maritime Museum, the "Taichung Qingshui Military Village Cultural Park" is the former Xiuying New Village, which was originally a military dependents' village used by the Air Force. It is one of 13 "Cultural Preservation Zones for Old Military Dependents' Villages" approved by the Ministry of National Defense. The park spans 6.25 hectares, with the Zhongshe archaeological site beneath the surface. The above-ground structures are part of the "settlement architectural group," preserving the organically "grown" buildings of the military dependents' village. In addition to retaining various types of military officer residences, the park also maintains green spaces and rice field landscapes. Opposite the park, there is a newly renovated military dependents' building that encompasses various forms of military village architecture. Walking through the undulating rooftops and narrow alleys feels like traversing a time tunnel, adding an intellectual and enjoyable aspect to cultural tourism. In recent years, the park has been gradually restored in phases. Once completed, the restoration will continue the living context of the military village, integrating characteristics of military villages, art, and archaeological sites to convey and present the historical and emotional memories associated with this space, thus creating a new appearance and culture for the military village.
