Pangang Church Introduction
Taiwan currently has three ship-shaped churches, including the Panding Church located in Longjing District, Taichung City; the Gala Church located in the Lala Mountain Kara Tribe, Fuxing Township, Taoyuan County; and the Zhangyuan Church located in Zhangyuan Village, Changbin Township, Taitung County. The Panding Church in Longjing District is a well-preserved structure, with the outer wall of the ship's hull painted in sky blue and white in the middle. The outer wall is painted in Mediterranean blue and white, reflecting the sky, resembling a giant ship sailing on the sea. Its unique and eye-catching appearance quickly made it one of the popular attractions in the area. Hidden in the alleys of the Tunghai University business district, the Panding Church is another uniquely designed church in the Taichung coastal area, following the Tunghai University Church. Completed in 1983, the distinctive ship-shaped design is based on the biblical story of Noah's Ark, with anchors and lanterns on the walls echoing the Bible. The striking architecture, combined with the sailboat-shaped outer wall, makes the main body of the Panding Church resemble the house of Noah's Ark, providing a sense of security to the visiting faithful. Nearly thirty years after its completion, the Panding Church features bright blue and white tones, evoking a sense of cheerfulness and tranquility, with landscaping related to Noah's Ark, showcasing thoughtful design.
