Banding Church Introduction
Taiwan currently has three ship-shaped churches, including the Panding Church located in the Longjing District of Taichung City; the Gala Church situated in the Lala Mountain, Fushing Township, Taoyuan County; and the Zhangyuan Church in Zhangyuan Village, Changbin Township, Taitung County. Panding Church in Longjing District is a well-preserved building, with its outer wall's color scheme featuring sky blue on the outer ring and white in the middle, painted with Mediterranean blue and white, reflecting the sky. It resembles a giant ship sailing on the sea, and its unique and eye-catching appearance has quickly made it a popular local attraction. Nestled within the alleys of the Tunghai University commercial district, Panding Church is another uniquely styled church in the Taichung coastal area, following the Tunghai LaSalle Church. Completed in 1983, the church's distinctive ship-like shape is based on the story of Noah's Ark from the Bible. Even the wall-mounted ship anchor and lanterns correspond with biblical themes. The striking architecture combined with the sailboat-shaped exterior makes the main structure of Panding Church resemble the Ark, providing a sense of security for visiting devout believers. Having been completed for nearly thirty years, Panding Church features a bright blue and white theme, creating a cheerful yet tranquil atmosphere, and its landscaping is also related to Noah's Ark, showcasing thoughtful design.
