Lian Tan Introduction
Liantan is located at the northern end of Baihe District in Tainan City and is the origin of Baihe lotus flowers. To the north, it faces Bajhang Creek and Shuishang Township in Chiayi County, covering an area of 3.62 square kilometers. The Baihe area’s lotus flowers first emerged in the vicinity of Liantan and Guang'an. The scale of lotus production in Liantan is quite large, especially in Sijiu and the Liantan rice fields, where the lotus fields interweave, creating a remarkable sight. The plains of scattered earthen hills, with many swamps, ponds, and clayey soil, serve as a fertile ground for lotus growth, leading to the settlement being named "Liantan," in recognition of the scenic view of "lotus growing in the pond." This is one of the four settlements in the Liantan community. Due to the place name, it is fondly referred to as "Lotus Township." Later, due to administrative reorganization, "Liantan" transitioned from a settlement name to a neighborhood name, becoming the only place name in Baihe District associated with "lotus." The Liantan community is a typical rural-type community, with several small hills interspersed in the green plains, where residents have lived for generations, practicing agriculture with simple, diligent, and frugal lifestyles. The primary crop is lotus seeds, and because of the varying planting seasons, beautiful lotus flowers can be appreciated from April to October. The unique scenes of lotus harvesting in summer and families peeling lotus seeds, as well as digging for lotus roots in winter and drying lotus powder at home, vividly reflect the lifestyle of the residents of this community.
