Chikan Tower Introduction

Chihkan Tower can be considered the main historical building in the West Central District of Tainan, and along with Anping Fort, it is one of Tainan's two major attractions. Established by the Dutch in 1652 as Fort Provintia, it laid the foundation for Tainan as the administrative and commercial center. After over 300 years of modifications and renovations, it has taken on its current appearance. Inside, there are temples such as the Sea God Temple, Wenchang Pavilion, and Penghu Academy. In the surrounding grass area stands a statue of Koxinga, capturing the attention of both domestic and international visitors, who often reflect on his heroic presence. The most eye-catching feature is the nine imperial tablets transported from the side of the Daanmen Gate, supported by a mythical creature resembling a stone tortoise, which is said to be one of the Nine Dragons' offspring known for its heavy bearing. This association has added many legends to Chihkan Tower, which continue to be topics of conversation today.
