Chihkan Cultural Park Introduction

In 1624, after the Dutch built Fort Zeelandia in Anping, they chose to establish a political and economic center on the opposite bank of the Tainan River in Chikan (which was then the location of the Pingpu people's Chikan community) due to the limitations of their territory. They constructed the Fort Provintia (now known as Chikan Tower) and developed Chikan Street and Provintia Street, marking the beginning of a prosperous commercial history in the city.
