The Original British Trading Company Introduction
Located next to the Anping Tree House, the white western-style building is the British trading company, D. H. Chen & Co. This was an establishment set up by the British company in Anping, Tainan after the opening of the port. It was one of the five major trading houses at the time. When port transportation was still functional, D. H. Chen & Co., located by the harbor, primarily engaged in the export of sugar, camphor, and tea, as well as the import of opium, making it an important commercial hub during its peak. Today, D. H. Chen & Co. has long lost its commercial function and has been repurposed as the Taiwan Frontier History Wax Museum, which exhibits wax figures representing early life in Taiwan. In 2001, the Taiwan Frontier History Wax Museum planned a time corridor to comprehensively showcase the history and growth trajectory of D. H. Chen & Co.
