Yanping Street Ancient Well Introduction
The Yanping Street Ancient Well is located on the stone-paved street (now Yanping Street) in the southeastern part of Anping's Fort Zeelandia, on Dawan City Street. It was a precious source of fresh water in the Anping area, and legend has it that the well's water is abundant and sweet-tasting. It has always been used by local residents. In the twelfth year of the Taisho era (1923), a water supply system began to be established in the Anping area, but the Yanping Street Ancient Well was not abandoned. Due to the delicious taste of the bean sprouts grown with the well water, many people came to buy them, and the area around the well was formerly known as "Bean Sprout Place," with the well itself referred to as "Bean Sprout Well." During World War II, when the water supply system was damaged by the war, the well's water was again used by local residents for drinking until the water supply system was restored, after which it was abandoned, resulting in the appearance we see today.
