Kaitai Tianhou Temple is dedicated to the Heavenly Holy Mother, Mazu. The Mazu statue worshipped here is said to have been brought by Koxinga in the 17th century to seek the goddess's blessings and assistance for his army to conquer Taiwan, hence the name "Kaitai."
