Former Taiwan Governor-General Monopoly Bureau Tainan Branch (Bai Xue School) Introduction
According to literature, during the Zheng period in 1665, Yan Cheng already had salt fields, which were then known as Laikou Salt Fields and might be the first salt field in Taiwan. The current designated historic site, the former Tainan branch of the Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau, is now commonly referred to as the "Yan Cheng Branch Office." The building itself served as a salt administration office during the Japanese colonial period and is the only preserved Japanese-style hall that was constructed through relocation. It was designated as a historic site in 2003, and restoration work was carried out by the Tainan City Cultural Assets Management Office in 2015, completed in 2017.
