Wutiao Harbor Cultural Park Introduction

Wutiao Harbor Cultural Park is considered one of the most historically rich areas in the Central and Western District of Tainan. In the mid-Qing Dynasty, the江 gradually silted up, but there were still five waterways connecting the city to the sea. The area around these five harbors became a bustling commercial center, which is the prototype of the current Central and Western District of Tainan. The five harbors, listed from north to south, are Xinkangqian Harbor, Fotou Harbor, Nanshi Harbor, Nanhe Harbor, and Anhai Harbor. The area roughly extends south of Chenggong Road, west of Xinmei Street, and south to Zhongzheng Road. In today's landscape, there are hardly any traces of the harbors from that time; one can only explore the remnants of the waterways through places like Shuixian Temple, Kaiji Martial Temple, Beishi Street, and Fengshen Temple. The transition from the harbor's prosperity to its complete disappearance took about a century, yet it laid the foundation for the commercial center of the city, which can only be described as legendary in the face of dramatic change over time.
