Xi Zi Bay Chiang Kai-shek Residence Introduction
The Xizi Bay Chiang Kai-shek Villa is located on Lianhai Road in the Gushan District, nestled among lush trees within the National Sun Yat-sen University campus. This green two-story building, featuring a blend of Japanese and Western architectural styles, was constructed in 1935. It was built by the Governor-General of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its rule with a commemorative exhibition. Due to its proximity to the Xizi Bay beach, it once served as a hot spring bathhouse affiliated with the beach. From 1952 onwards, it became a resting villa for former President Chiang Kai-shek in the south. Given the historical significance of the villa, the second floor still preserves and displays artifacts related to President Chiang, while the courtyard on the first floor houses the presidential car of that time. However, the first-floor space has been transformed into the "Xiwai Art Gallery," quietly narrating the vicissitudes of history marked by changes in political power.
