Chaoqing Villa (Chiang Kai-shek Residence) Introduction
The Xizi Bay Chiang Kai-shek Residence is located on Lianhai Road in the Gushan District, nestled within the lush surroundings of National Sun Yat-sen University. This green two-story hybrid-style building was constructed in 1935 by the Governor-General of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era to commemorate the 40th anniversary of governance in Taiwan with a commemorative exhibition. Due to its proximity to the Xizi Bay beach, it once served as a warming bathhouse affiliated with the beach. Since 1952, it has been the southern retreat of former President Chiang Kai-shek. Due to the historical significance of the residence, the second floor continues to preserve and display artifacts related to President Chiang, while the courtyard on the first floor still houses the presidential car from that era. The first-floor space, however, has been transformed into the "Xibay Art Gallery," quietly telling the poignant history of past times and the shifts of political power.
