Banping Mountain Natural Park Introduction
Zuoying is blessed with beautiful mountains and waters. The notable mountain is Banping Mountain, a unique hill that features a coral reef limestone geology rich in marine fossils. The entrance has two sides, east and west; the west side has a prominent "Banping Mountain Climbing Trail" archway, complete with pathways and pavilions. Since the Qing Dynasty, it has gained significant popularity and is often referred to alongside Lianchihtan as one of Kaohsiung's must-visit attractions, making it an excellent spot for hiking and ecological observation. The east side was originally a cement mining area, which is now out of operation and undergoing rehabilitation and maintenance for soil conservation. The name and appearance of Banping Mountain have been shaped by past excessive mining. Since the cessation of mining on July 10, 1998, more than 20,000 woody plants have been planted, comprising about 340 different species.
