Banping Mountain Natural Park Introduction

Zuoying boasts beautiful mountains and waters, with Banping Mountain being a unique hill composed of coral reef limestone containing a large number of coastal biological remains. The entrance is divided into two sides—east and west. The west side features a prominent "Banping Mountain Hiking Trail" archway, equipped with pathways and pavilions. It has been quite famous since the Qing Dynasty and is renowned alongside Lotus Pond as one of Kaohsiung's top attractions, making it a great place for hiking and ecological observation. The east side was originally a cement mining area, which is now discontinued and undergoing soil and water conservation treatment and maintenance. The name and appearance of Banping Mountain have also been shaped by past excessive mining activities. Since the cessation of mining on July 10, 1998, over 20,000 woody plants of approximately 340 different species have been planted.
