Banping Mountain Natural Park Introduction

Zuoying boasts beautiful mountains and waters, with Banping Mountain being a unique hill consisting of coral reef limestone geology that contains a large number of marine biological fossils. The entrance is divided into eastern and western sides, with a prominent "Banping Mountain Hiking Trail" archway on the west side, featuring trails and pavilions. Since the Qing Dynasty, it has been quite famous and is regarded as one of the notable scenic spots in Kaohsiung, alongside Lotus Pond, making it a great place for hiking and ecological observation. The eastern side was originally a cement mining site, which has now ceased operations, undergoing rehabilitation and soil conservation work. The name and appearance of Banping Mountain have also been shaped by past excessive mining activities. Since mining was halted on July 10, 1998, more than 20,000 woody plants of around 340 different species have been planted.
