Banping Mountain Natural Park Introduction
Zuoying features beautiful mountains and waters, with Banping Mountain being a unique hill composed of coral limestone geology that contains a large amount of marine biological remains. The entrance is divided into eastern and western sides, with the western side prominently marked by the "Banping Mountain Hiking Trail" archway, which includes trails and pavilions. Since the Qing Dynasty, it has been quite famous and is regarded as one of Kaohsiung's renowned attractions alongside Lotus Pond, making it a great spot for hiking and ecological observation. The eastern side was originally a cement mining area, which is now inactive and undergoing post-mining land restoration and maintenance. The name and appearance of Banping Mountain have also been influenced by past excessive mining. Since the cessation of mining on July 10, 1998, more than 20,000 woody plants have been planted, comprising about 340 different plant species.
