Banping Mountain Natural Park Introduction
Zuoying boasts beautiful mountains and waters, with Banping Mountain being a unique hill featuring coral reef limestone with a large quantity of marine biological fossils. The entrance is divided into east and west sides, with the west side marked by a prominent "Banping Mountain Trail" archway, equipped with trails, pavilions, and more. Since the Qing Dynasty, it has gained considerable fame and is known alongside Lotus Pond as a popular tourist destination in Kaohsiung, making it an excellent spot for hiking and ecological observation. The east side was originally a cement mining site, which has now ceased operations, and is undergoing land restoration and maintenance efforts. The name and appearance of Banping Mountain have also been shaped by past excessive mining activities. Since the cessation of mining on July 10, 1998, more than 20,000 trees from approximately 340 different species have been planted.
