Sky Rainforest - R17 Universiade Station Introduction
The World Games Station is the first elevated station on the Red Line after crossing Banping Mountain from south to north. It is located near the Zuoying Naval Base. The exterior design of the station resembles a snow-white sailboat, sailing through the green waves of Banping Mountain, echoing the imagery of Kaohsiung as a harbor city. Stepping inside the station reveals a different world; the theme of this station is "Rainforest in the Sky." The artwork, created by two artists from the WJI team, showcases the insects and plants that once existed and still exist in southern Taiwan, printed onto thin film in a unique way, sandwiched between safety glass, recreating the appearance of a rainforest. The massive public art installation covers an area of 1,000 square meters, distributed across the skylights of the station, the side walls of the main station body, and the escalators, resembling a huge green embroidered curtain. This transforms the enormous structure of the station into a light and shadow-transparent, floating rainforest, creating an illusion that one is immersed in the ecological green trails of Banping Mountain. It also serves as a reminder to every passerby of the relationship between land, environment, and people, inviting appreciation as well as thoughtful reflection.
