Sky Rainforest - R17 Universiade Station Introduction
Shiyuan Station is the first elevated station on the Red Line after crossing Banping Mountain from south to north. It is located near the Zuoying Naval Base, and the exterior design of the station resembles a snow-white sailboat, sailing through the green waves of Banping Mountain, echoing the imagery of Kaohsiung as a seaport city. Upon entering the station, there is a different world awaiting. The theme of this station is the "Rainforest in the Sky," and the artwork was created by two artists from the WJI team. It features insects and plants that have existed and currently exist in southern Taiwan, printed onto translucent film in a special way and sandwiched between safety glass, recreating the appearance of a rainforest. The massive public artwork spans an area of 1,000 square meters, distributed across the skylights, the main side walls of the station, and the escalators, resembling a giant green embroidered curtain, transforming the vast structure of the station into a luminous, floating rainforest of light and shadow. It gives the illusion of being within the ecological green forest trails of Banping Mountain and reminds every passerby of the relationship between land, environment, and humanity, an appreciation that is also worth contemplating.
