Sky Forest - R17 Universiade Station Introduction
Shiyuan Station is the first elevated station on the Red Line after crossing Banping Mountain from south to north, located near the Zuoying Naval Base. The design of the station's exterior resembles a snow-white sailboat riding the green waves of Banping Mountain, echoing the imagery of Kaohsiung as a harbor city. Stepping inside the station reveals a different world; its theme is the aerial rainforest, created by two artists from the WJI team. The work features insects and plants that once existed and still exist in southern Taiwan, printed onto thin film in a special way and laminated between safety glass, reproducing the essence of a rainforest. The enormous public art piece covers an area of 1,000 square meters, distributed across the station's skylights, side walls, and escalators, resembling a massive green tapestry. It transforms the large station structure into a light and shadow permeable, ethereal airborne rainforest, creating an illusion of being amidst the ecological green trails of Banping Mountain, while also reminding each passerby of the relationship between land, environment, and humanity—inviting reflection alongside appreciation.
