Tzeng Wen-Chung Memorial Museum of Art Introduction

Meilun is a place of great talent and beauty, where the stunning mountains and rivers foster literary figures like Chung Li-ho, who dedicated his life to literature and advocated for farmers, as well as artists like teacher Tseng Wen-chung, who selflessly contributed to aesthetic education and devoted himself to preserving the beauty of the countryside. Teacher Tseng Wen-chung is a renowned oil and watercolor painter, who grew up in the Tseng family house on Yong'an Old Street. He has a deep affection for the customs, culture, and beautiful scenery of Meilun, creating hundreds of artworks in his Meilun Hometown series and Kaohsiung series, depicting the picturesque landscapes of his hometown, often likened to the Peach Blossom Spring. He has generously donated large-scale paintings to governmental cultural units and schools to promote aesthetic education and nurture students. Tseng Wen-chung has a special fondness for traditional Hakka houses, and feeling the urgency of preserving these uniquely beautiful houses which have gradually fallen into disrepair, he has worked tirelessly for their preservation and revitalization. In 2000, he finally rebuilt his ancestral home on Yong'an Street into a spacious modern gallery, establishing the Tseng Wen-chung Art Museum to showcase his own and other artists' works, providing a venue for art and literature lectures. He also encourages the locals of Yong'an Street to preserve, document, and display Hakka cultural relics and history, leading to the establishment of a group of Hakka art museums, ensuring the longevity of Hakka cultural heritage.
