Tzeng Wen-Chung Museum of Fine Arts Introduction
Meinong is a place rich in spirit and remarkable people, where beautiful mountains and rivers, along with genuine human connections, have nurtured literary figures like Zhong Lihe, who dedicated his life to literature and advocated for farmers' rights. There are also artists like Teacher Zeng Wenzhong, who selflessly contributed to aesthetic education and worked to preserve the beauty of the local culture. Teacher Zeng Wenzhong is a renowned oil and watercolor painter, who grew up in the Zeng family's house on Yong'an Old Street. He has a deep affection for Meinong's local customs, beautiful landscapes, and buildings, creating hundreds of works in the "Meinong Hometown Series" and "Kaohsiung Series," capturing the picturesque scenery of his hometown akin to a paradise. He generously donates large paintings to government cultural institutions and schools to promote art education among students. Zeng Wenzhong has a particular fondness for traditional Hakka houses and is concerned about their gradual disappearance due to years of neglect. He has tirelessly advocated for the preservation and adaptive reuse of these houses. In 2000, he rebuilt his ancestral home on Yong'an Street into a spacious modern gallery, where he established the "Zeng Wenzhong Art Museum," showcasing his own works and those of other artists, as well as serving as a venue for art and literature lectures. He also encourages the locals of Yong'an Street to preserve, document, and display Hakka artifacts and history, initiating a group of Hakka art museums to ensure the long-lasting legacy of Hakka culture.
