Tseng Wen-Chung Art Museum Introduction
Meinong is a place rich in culture and talent, where beautiful landscapes and warm human sentiments have nurtured literary figures like Chung Li-he, who dedicated his life to literature and advocated for farmers. There are also artists like Teacher Tseng Wen-chung, who selflessly contributed to aesthetic education and dedicated themselves to preserving the beauty of the countryside. Teacher Tseng Wen-chung is a renowned oil and watercolor painter, having grown up in the Tseng family's house on Yong'an Old Street. He has a deep affection for Meinong's customs, beautiful scenery, and architecture, creating hundreds of works in his Meinong Hometown series and Kaohsiung series, capturing the picturesque landscapes of his hometown that resemble a Peach Blossom Spring. He often generously donates large artworks to government cultural institutions and schools to promote aesthetic education among students. Tseng Wen-chung has a particular fondness for traditional Hakka houses and is concerned that these uniquely beautiful structures are gradually disappearing due to age and neglect. He has tirelessly worked on the preservation and re-use of these houses. In 2000, he finally rebuilt his ancestral home on Yong'an Street into a spacious modern gallery, establishing the Tseng Wen-chung Art Museum to display his own works as well as those of other artists and to serve as a venue for art and literary lectures. He also encourages the local community on Yong'an Street to preserve, document, and exhibit Hakka cultural artifacts and history, forming a network of Hakka art museums to ensure the long-lasting legacy of Hakka heritage.
