Meinong Hakka Cultural Center Introduction
The "Meinong Cultural and Creative Center," completed and opened at the end of 2015, is located in the oldest street of Meinong, Yong'an Old Street. The park features towering old cashew trees, providing ample shade. The buildings are divided into three major themes, representing a creative work that combines historical architecture with a recreated cultural base. The "Meinong Police Substation," built in 1902, is a Baroque historical building that reflects a blend of Eastern and Western styles. After years of restoration, it has now become a multifunctional tourist service center where visitors can comfortably appreciate the building's rustic beauty and experience Hakka culture. The quaint "Japanese Dormitory" has been transformed into a preschool, while the newly constructed Cultural and Educational Center houses a large collection of books for reading and listening. Notably, a special area has been established to collect Hakka-themed books for public reading and study. The "Kaixuan Square," connecting the three new and old buildings, regularly hosts various innovative cultural and artistic events, theatrical music performances, and Hakka markets. The cultural and creative center also invites resident artists to inherit and promote Hakka culture. Meinong has historically boasted a rich artistic and cultural atmosphere and is a significant stronghold of Hakka culture. The fusion of tradition and modernity at the cultural center not only witnesses the historical changes in Meinong but also serves as an important new site for experiencing and understanding Hakka culture.
