Hongmao Port Cultural Park Introduction
Located at the entrance of Kaohsiung Port's second container terminal, covering an area of 3.42 hectares, the Hongmaogang Cultural Park embodies the eternal memories and heritage of the people from the former Hongmaogang settlement, which has become part of history due to relocation. The Hongmaogang Cultural Park is a collaborative project between the Kaohsiung City Government's Bureau of Cultural Affairs and the Hongmaogang Cultural Association, featuring six main areas: the "Kaohsiung Tower Rotating Restaurant," "Seaview Platform," "Exhibition Hall," "Outdoor Display Area," "Sky Walk," and "Wharf and Waiting Room." The Kaohsiung Tower Rotating Restaurant offers a dining experience in a 360-degree rotating restaurant transformed from the "Kaohsiung Tower," where the sunset and bustling cargo ships reflect upon the waves. The Seaview Platform, adjacent to the waters of Kaohsiung Port, is the only place in Taiwan to enjoy the grand view of "large ships entering the port" at such close proximity, allowing visitors to witness the operations of large vessels entering and exiting the harbor and the unique scenery of container loading and unloading—making it the most popular spot for sunset viewing in the park. The Exhibition Hall features rich audio-visual interactive installations centered on the daily life of the Hongmaogang settlement and the historical materials passed down from ancestors, allowing visitors to traverse time and experience marine life from ancient times to the present. The Outdoor Display Area retains the nostalgic charm of old houses! Following the relocation of the Hongmaogang settlement, only this Cultural Park remains. We use conceptual curation to recreate the past, utilizing original components of old houses combined with antique architectural techniques to present a virtual reality reminiscent of life in the Hongmaogang settlement. The Sky Walk spans across the Cultural Park and was previously a coal conveyor belt from the Taipower Dalin Thermal Power Plant. It provides an excellent vantage point for visitors to admire the beautiful seaside scenery of Hongmaogang.
