Hongmao Port Cultural Park Introduction
Located at the entrance of the Kaohsiung Second Port, covering an area of 3.42 hectares, the Hongmao Port settlement has become a part of history due to relocation, but the lives and spirit of the Hongmao Port people remain an eternal memory and heritage within the park. The Hongmao Port Cultural Park is a collaboration between the Kaohsiung City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Hongmao Port Cultural Association, featuring six main areas: the "High Pyramid Rotating Restaurant," "Seaside Observation Deck," "Exhibition Hall," "Outdoor Display Area," "Sky Walk," and "Dock and Waiting Room." The High Pyramid Rotating Restaurant, converted from the "High Pyramid," offers diners a 360-degree rotating experience, where the sunset and bustling cargo ships reflect off the waves. The Seaside Observation Deck, adjacent to the waters of Kaohsiung Port, is the only unique spot in Taiwan to closely observe the grand "large ships entering the port." Visitors can witness the operations of large vessels entering and leaving the port, as well as the loading and unloading of containers, making it the most popular sunset viewing spot in the park. The Exhibition Hall features rich audio-visual interactive installations themed around the daily life of the Hongmao Port settlement and historical materials passed down from ancestors, allowing us to traverse time and experience the maritime lifestyle from ancient times to the present. In the Outdoor Display Area, the old houses retain a nostalgic warmth. After the relocation of the Hongmao Port, only the Hongmao Port Cultural Park remains. The exhibition uses conceptual curation instead of recreating the original appearance, utilizing the original components of the old houses, combined with traditional architectural techniques, to present a virtual reality reminiscent of life in the Hongmao Port settlement in the past. The Sky Walk spans across the Hongmao Port Cultural Park, originally a coal conveyor belt from the Taipower Dalan Thermal Power Plant, providing an excellent vantage point for visitors to enjoy the beautiful sea views of Hongmao Port.
