Hóngmáo Port Cultural Park Introduction
Located at the entrance of Kaohsiung Port's second harbor, covering an area of 3.42 hectares, the Hongmao Port community has become a part of history due to relocation, yet the lifestyle and spirit of the people of Hongmao Port remain an eternal memory and heritage within the park. The Hongmao Port Cultural Park is a collaborative effort between the Kaohsiung City Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Hongmao Port Cultural Association, planning six major areas: the "High Tower Rotating Restaurant," "Sea Viewing Platform," "Exhibition Hall," "Outdoor Display Area," "Skywalk," and "Dock and Waiting Room." The High Tower Rotating Restaurant offers a dining experience in a 360-degree rotating restaurant transformed from the "High Tower," where the sunset and the bustling cargo ships reflect beautifully on the waves. The Sea Viewing Platform, adjacent to the waters of Kaohsiung Port, is the only unique spot in Taiwan for closely observing the magnificent "Large Ships Entering the Port," allowing visitors to watch large vessels entering and leaving the port and the container loading and unloading operations—this is also the best spot in the park for enjoying the sunset. Within the Exhibition Hall, interactive audiovisual installations showcase snippets of life in the Hongmao Port community and historical materials passed down by ancestors, taking us through time to experience the maritime lifestyle from ancient times to the present. The Outdoor Display Area retains the nostalgic human touch of old houses! The relocation of the Hongmao Port has left only this corner of the Hongmao Port Cultural Park. We use conceptual exhibitions to replace the original appearance, showcasing virtual reality of life in the past at the Hongmao Port community by leveraging the original components of the old houses combined with antique architectural techniques. The Skywalk, which spans the Hongmao Port Cultural Park, was originally a coal transport conveyor belt from the Taiwan Power Company's Dalin Thermal Power Plant. It serves as an excellent viewpoint for visitors to appreciate the beautiful coastal scenery of Hongmao Port.
