Red Hair Port Cultural Park Introduction
Located at the entrance of Kaohsiung Port Second Container Terminal, covering an area of 3.42 hectares, the Red Hair Port settlement has entered history due to relocation, but the lives and spirit of the Red Hair Port people remain an eternal memory and legacy within the park. The Red Hair Port Cultural Park is a collaborative effort between the Kaohsiung City Government’s Cultural Bureau and the Red Hair Port Cultural Association. The park is divided into six major areas: the "High Tower Rotating Restaurant," "Viewing Platform," "Exhibition Hall," "Outdoor Exhibition Area," "Skywalk," and "Pier and Waiting Room." The High Tower Rotating Restaurant is a 360-degree rotating dining venue transformed from the original "High Tower," where diners can enjoy the sunset and the bustling cargo ships reflecting on the waves. The Viewing Platform, adjacent to the waters of Kaohsiung Port, is the only place in Taiwan to uniquely observe the grand "Large Ship Entering the Port" up close, allowing visitors to see the entry and exit of large vessels and cargo loading and unloading operations, making it the most beloved spot for watching sunsets in the park. Inside the Exhibition Hall, there are rich audio-visual interactive installations focusing on the daily lives of the Red Hair Port community and the cultural materials passed down by ancestors. This experience takes us through time, showcasing the lifestyle by the sea from ancient times to the present. The Outdoor Exhibition Area retains the nostalgic charm of old houses! The relocation of Red Hair Port left only a corner of the Red Hair Port Cultural Park. Our curatorial approach uses imagery to replace the original appearance, utilizing original components of the old houses combined with ancient architectural techniques, creating a virtual reality reminiscent of life in the Red Hair Port settlement in the past. The Skywalk spans the Red Hair Port Cultural Park, originally a coal conveyor belt from the Taipower Dalin Thermal Power Plant. It is an excellent spot for visitors to enjoy the beautiful sea view of Red Hair Port.
