Sanfeng Temple Introduction
Sanfeng Temple, formerly known as Sanfeng Pavilion, was initially built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, making it over 300 years old. It served as the guardian deity for the residents of Sankuaizhu (near Kaohsiung Railway Station and Jianguo 3rd Road), worshipping the main deity, Nezha, the Third Prince of the Central Altar. In 1971, it was relocated to its current site on Hebei Second Road. The three-story temple building, designed in a Northern-style, features elegant and gorgeous carvings and colors, with the door gods painted in a flat coloring technique by master artist Pan Lishui, creating a solemn and intricate atmosphere. The spacious temple courtyard enhances the grandeur of the site. Sanfeng Temple is the largest Nezha temple in Taiwan, and during festivals, various Nezha processions from across the region perform competitive displays, transforming it into a vibrant carnival within the religious community.
