Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Ancient Battlefield Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first group of settlers began to develop and cultivate the area of Xiaobantian. Due to insufficient water sources, life was quite difficult. It wasn't until the Japanese occupation period that a bridge and canal were constructed, finally completed in the 13th year of the Republic of China, solving the issues of drinking water and irrigation for residents. After that, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, with the Changyuan Canal becoming the lifeblood of the area. Therefore, when visiting Xiaobantian, one cannot miss walking along the Changyuan Canal Ecological Path. The path is 3 kilometers long, with a gentle terrain and beautiful scenery along the way, featuring rich ecology and bamboo forest landscapes. Lin Shuangwen was executed on the 10th day of the 3rd month in 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign), at the age of only 32. The Lin Shuangwen uprising lasted for a year and three months, with participation numbers reaching into the hundreds of thousands, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwan's history. The ancient battlefield features a massive stone chessboard, symbolizing the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled aspirations and the spirit of sacrifice.
