Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Ancient Battlefield Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first batch of residents settled in Xiaobantian, where they faced great hardships due to a lack of water sources. It wasn't until the Japanese colonial period that they commissioned the construction of bridges and channels, completing them in the 13th year of the Republic of China, which resolved the issues of drinking water and irrigation. As a result, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, with Changyuan Canal becoming the lifeline of Xiaobantian. Therefore, when visiting Xiaobantian, one must walk the Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail, which is 3 kilometers long with a gentle terrain, beautiful scenery, and rich ecology, featuring views of bamboo forests. Lin Shuangwen was executed on the 10th day of the 3rd month in 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong Emperor's reign) at the age of only 32. The Lin Shuangwen Uprising lasted for one year and three months, with participation numbers reaching over hundreds of thousands, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwan's history. The large stone chessboard at the ancient battleground symbolizes the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled achievements from the uprising and his spirit of sacrifice.
