Changyuan Stream Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Historical Battlefield Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first batch of residents settled in Xiaobantian for cultivation and development. Due to insufficient water resources, life was quite difficult until the Japanese colonial period, when a bridge and canal were constructed. This project was completed in the 13th year of the Republic of China, resolving issues related to drinking water and irrigation for the residents. Subsequently, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, and Changyuan Canal became the lifeline of Xiaobantian. Therefore, when visiting Xiaobantian, one must walk the Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail. The trail is 3 kilometers long, flat, and features beautiful scenery and rich ecology, allowing visitors to enjoy the bamboo forest landscape. Lin Shuangwen was executed on the 10th day of the 3rd month in 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong period) at the young age of 32. The Lin Shuangwen uprising lasted for one year and three months and involved hundreds of thousands of participants, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwan's history. The ancient battlefield features a massive stone chessboard, symbolizing the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled ambitions and his spirit of sacrifice.
