Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Historical Battlefield Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first settlers of Xiaobantian began to cultivate the land, but due to insufficient water supply, life was quite difficult. It wasn't until the Japanese colonial period that a bridge and canal were constructed, eventually completed in the 13th year of the Republic of China, solving the problems of drinking water and irrigation for the residents. From then on, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, with Changyuan Canal becoming the lifeblood of the area. Therefore, when visiting Xiaobantian, one must walk the Changyuan Canal Ecological Path, which is 3 kilometers long, has a gentle terrain, beautiful scenery along the way, and rich ecology, allowing visitors to enjoy the sight of bamboo forests. Lin Shuangwen was executed on the tenth day of the third month in 1788 (the 53rd year of Qianlong), at the age of only thirty-two. The Lin Shuangwen Uprising lasted for a year and three months and involved hundreds of thousands of participants, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwan's history. The large stone chessboard at the ancient battlefield symbolizes the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled ambitions during his uprising and his spirit of sacrifice.
