Chang Yuan Canal Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Ancient Battlefield Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first batch of settlers arrived in Xiaobantian to cultivate and develop the land. Due to insufficient water sources, life was quite difficult until the Japanese colonial period, when a request to build bridges and channels was approved. Finally, it was completed in the 13th year of the Republic of China, solving the issues of drinking water and irrigation. After that, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, and the Changyuan Canal became the lifeline of Xiaobantian. Therefore, visiting Xiaobantian wouldn't be complete without a walk on the Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail, which is 3 kilometers long, with a gentle terrain, beautiful scenery along the way, and rich ecology, allowing visitors to enjoy the bamboo forest landscape. Lin Shuangwen was executed calmly on the tenth day of the third month in 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong era), at the age of only thirty-two. The Lin Shuangwen uprising lasted for more than a year, with participation from up to hundreds of thousands of people, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwan's history. The immense stone chessboard at the ancient battlefield symbolizes the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled ambitions during the uprising and the spirit of sacrifice for a noble cause.
