Changyuan Creek Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Historical Battlefield Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first batch of residents settled in Xiaobantian and began to develop the land. Due to insufficient water sources, life was quite difficult until the Japanese colonial period when a mission was established to construct bridges and channels. This project was finally completed in the 13th year of the Republic of China, solving the problems of drinking water and irrigation. Thereafter, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, and the Zhangyuan Canal became the lifeline of Xiaobantian. Therefore, when visiting Xiaobantian, one must walk along the Zhangyuan Canal Ecological Trail, which is 3 kilometers long, has gentle terrain, offers beautiful scenery along the way, and is rich in ecology, featuring bamboo forest landscapes. Lin Shuangwen was executed on the 10th day of the 3rd month in 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong Emperor) at the age of only 32. The Lin Shuangwen uprising lasted for a year and three months, with participation from as many as hundreds of thousands of people, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwan's history. The large stone chessboard at the ancient battlefield symbolizes the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled ambitions and the spirit of sacrifice for his cause.
