Changyuan River Ecological Trail - Lin Shuangwen Battle Site Introduction
During the Ming Dynasty, the first residents of Xiaobantian opened up the land for cultivation. Due to insufficient water sources, life was quite difficult until the Japanese colonial period, when a request was made to build bridges and canals. This was completed in the 13th year of the Republic of China, solving the problems of drinking water and irrigation for the residents. Since then, Xiaobantian transformed from barren hills into fertile fields, and Changyuan Canal became its lifeline. Therefore, when visiting Xiaobantian, one must walk along the Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail, which is 3 kilometers long, with gentle terrain and beautiful scenery along the way, offering rich ecology and bamboo forest views. Lin Shuangwen was executed on the 10th day of the 3rd month in 1788 (the 53rd year of the Qianlong era) at the age of 32. The Lin Shuangwen Uprising lasted for a year and three months, with participant numbers reaching hundreds of thousands, making it the largest peasant uprising in Taiwanese history. The massive stone chessboard at the ancient battlefield symbolizes the remembrance of Lin Shuangwen's unfulfilled ambitions and the spirit of his sacrifice.
