Huwei Tsuo Salon Introduction
Old House Transformed into a Salon: A New Cultural Hub in Huwei Former legislator Wang Li-Ping spent two years renovating a more than seventy-year-old "Xingya-style" old house hidden in the urban area of Huwei, creating a space that promotes ecology, gender, and alternative globalization. This not only preserves a historical building in Yunlin but also enhances a venue for promoting art, culture, ecology, and feminism. The Huwei House Salon is tucked away in the alleys of Huwei City and features an architecture that embodies both "Japanese style" and "Western flavor," constructed around the 1940s. Due to urban expansion, it has been submerged within buildings, and fewer local residents are aware of its existence. Over two years ago, Wang Li-Ping fortuitously purchased this building and began its renovation, creating a space for developing deep artistic and cultural engagements. Huwei House Salon is Yunlin County's first attempt to combine art, culture, ecology, environmental protection, and literature in one space. Wang Li-Ping stated that the Huwei House preserves the beauty of this old building while incorporating many modern art creations, showcasing a spirit of reflection and discussion, thus retaining a public building in Yunlin worth appreciating.
