Lao Cuo Becomes a Salon: A New Cultural Spot in Huwei Former legislator Wang Li-Ping spent two years renovating a 70-year-old "Xingya" style building hidden in the urban area of Huwei, transforming it into a hub that promotes ecology, gender, and alternative globalization. This not only preserves a historical building in Yunlin but also creates a venue for promoting arts, culture, ecology, and gender advocacy. The Huwei Cuo Salon is nestled within the alleys of Huwei and features architecture that combines "Japanese" and "Western" styles, built around the 1940s. Due to urban expansion, it became surrounded by other buildings, making it little known among locals. Over two years ago, Wang Li-Ping came across the building, purchased it, and set about creating a space dedicated to the development of artistic and cultural endeavors. The Huwei Cuo Salon is Yunlin County's first attempt to combine art, culture, ecology, environmental protection, and literature into one space. Wang Li-Ping stated that the salon preserves the beauty of the old building while incorporating many modern artistic creations, showcasing a spirit of reflection and discussion, thereby retaining a public building worth appreciating in Yunlin.
