Wengqiang is a part of the wall surrounding the residence of the wealthy merchant Yan Dongyi, who established a rice mill and oil factory. This residence was built during the Daoguang period and part of the Wengqiang wall was retained after the major earthquake in the 31st year of the Guangxu reign.
