The Wengqiang is a part of the wall of the residence of the wealthy merchant Yan Dongyi, which was built during the Daoguang period. After the major earthquake in the 31st year of the Guangxu era, part of the residence's wall was left intact.

The stone wall is part of the courtyard of the large merchant Yan Dongyi's residence, which was established between the earthen walls (rice mills) and oil vehicles (oil factories). This residence was built during the Daoguang period and was partially retained after the rebuilding of the residence following the major earthquake in the 31st year of the Guangxu era.
