Zheng Fengxi Memorial Library Introduction
The Cheng Feng-Hsi Memorial Library was established by Mr. Cheng Feng-Hsi, who felt the lack of library facilities in rural areas during his lifetime. He was determined to set up a library but unfortunately passed away from liver cancer before he could fulfill this ambition. His wife, Ms. Wu Chi-Chiao, worked tirelessly to realize her husband's wish by establishing the Cheng Feng-Hsi Cultural and Educational Foundation and began raising funds for the library's construction. With assistance from various parties, the library was completed in 1989, covering an area of 519.4 ping, designed by renowned architect Lee Tsu-Yuan, featuring a ship-shaped architectural design. In 1992, it was awarded as an excellent town library. The Library of Books and Cultural Artifacts is located on County Road 164 in Yunlin, notable for its slanted ship-shaped roof design. The building stands out alongside green rice fields and resembles a ship with its sails raised, sailing on the vast ocean, symbolizing the life inspiration provided by the books housed within, always striving relentlessly. Situated next to the 164 line in Couhu Township, its distinctive architecture features the slanted ship-type roof; this was Mr. Cheng Feng-Hsi's greatest hope—that this library would provide local children with a comfortable reading environment and a rich collection of books. Inside, it displays books and prosthetics used by Cheng Feng-Hsi during his lifetime, allowing visitors to further understand his life and achievements.
