Cheng Feng-Hsi Memorial Library Introduction
The Cheng Feng-Hsi Memorial Library was established by Mr. Cheng Feng-Hsi, who, feeling the lack of library facilities in rural areas, vowed to set up a library. Unfortunately, he passed away from liver cancer before realizing his ambition. His wife, Ms. Wu Chi-Chao, worked hard to fulfill his wish by establishing the "Cheng Feng-Hsi Cultural and Educational Foundation" and started raising funds for the construction of the library. With assistance from various sources, the library was completed in 1989, covering an area of 1,719 square meters, designed by the famous architect Li Zu-Yuan. The building is characterized by its ship-shaped architecture, and in 1992, it was awarded the Outstanding Township Library. The library, located on County Road 164 in Yunlin, features a distinctive sloping ship-shaped roof design. The striking exterior stands out beside the lush green rice fields, resembling a ship with sails raised, navigating through the ocean, just like the life inspiration it provides to readers. Situated along Highway 164 in Kouhu Township, the architectural design is most notable for its sloping ship-shaped roof. This reflects Mr. Cheng Feng-Hsi’s greatest expectation during his lifetime: to provide local children a comfortable reading environment and a rich collection of books. The library also displays books and prosthetics used by Cheng Feng-Hsi, allowing visitors to further understand his life story and achievements.
