Jiancheng Roundabout Introduction
In the historical development of the old city area of Taipei, the "Jiancheng Circle" plays an important role. Its establishment served as the heart of the Dadaocheng bustling district, located at the convergence of four roads: Chongqing North Road, Nanjing West Road, Ningxia Road, and Tianshui Road. It not only stimulated the local commercial prosperity, extending to the surrounding old Jiancheng area, but also became a cradle for many successful entrepreneurs. Through several historical changes, from the discovery of the Dadaocheng Circle air-raid shelter reservoir monument during the foundation excavation of the reconstruction project in 2002 to the culinary memories many have of Jiancheng Circle, it has now transformed into an urban oasis. Besides preserving the original ancient well, plans are in place to create a fountain relaxation area and a green urban square, which will incorporate four public art pieces donated by a foundation to commemorate the past and look towards the future. This allows busy citizens to engage with the artworks, cultivate their minds and bodies, enhance cultural dialogue with the community, and provide a space for relaxation, play, and reminiscence, all contributing to the prosperity and development of the Western District.
