Sanjiao Ferry Terminal Introduction
Sanxia Ferry, located in Hougangqian, serves as a connection between Shezi Island, Jiantan, and Dalongdong (Dalong Pump). With the reclamation of land, the formation of villages and the increasing dependence on street towns gradually became significant. In addition to connecting the street towns for transportation, Sanxia Ferry also acted as a harbor where local residents gathered their livelihood boats. Besides engaging in agriculture on land, raising ducks by the riverside, and catching clams and fish in the river were important means of subsistence for them. Due to river regulation, the functions of the wharf have gradually diminished, and the history of Sanxia Ferry bears witness to the changes in the Tamsui River, making it a space with great historical significance. Currently, only about ten small boats quietly recount the past of the ferry, preserved by A-Zheng (a descendant of a shipbuilding family born in Sanxia Ferry, Jiantan, Taipei, who learned shipbuilding at the age of 17 and has crafted nearly 300 small boats and 100 dragon boats, making him one of Taiwan's few handcrafted dragon boat masters). He continues to pass on skills and cultivate culture, allowing memories of the riverside to endure, while also rekindling enthusiasm at Sanxia Ferry. Key landscape features include a waterfront dock, small boats, dragon boats, a base for dragon boat production, and the national treasure dragon boat master Mr. Liu Qingzheng.
