Sanjiao Ferry Terminal Introduction

San Jiao Du, located in the area known as Hougangqian, serves as a connection point to Shezi Island, Jiantan, and Dalongdong (Dalong Pump). As land reclamation progressed, the establishment of villages and reliance on towns became increasingly important. In addition to linking these towns, San Jiao Du provided transportation and served as a harbor where local residents gathered their fishing boats. Besides engaging in agriculture on land, residents also raised ducks by the river, sifted for clams, and fished, which became crucial means of livelihood. However, following river management projects, the port's functionality gradually declined and disappeared. The history of San Jiao Du reflects the changes of the Tamsui River, making it a space of significant historical value. Currently, there are only about ten small boats quietly narrating the past of the ferry, maintained by Mr. Zheng (a descendant of a boatbuilding family born in San Jiao Du, Jiantan, who learned boatbuilding at the age of seventeen and has crafted nearly 300 small boats and 100 dragon boats, being one of the few master craftsmen of hand-made dragon boats in Taiwan). His efforts ensure the continuation of skills and cultural sowing, allowing the memories of the riverside to endure and reigniting passion in San Jiao Du. Key attractions include a waterfront dock, small boats and dragon boats, a base for dragon boat crafting, and Mr. Liu Qingzheng, a national treasure dragon boat craftsman.
