Sanjiao Ferry Terminal Introduction
The location of Sanjiaodu is known locally as Hougangqian. Hougangqian connects Shezi, Jiantan, and Dalongdong (Dalong Pump) and has increasingly become important with the development of land and the formation of villages, as well as the reliance on street markets. In addition to connecting street villages, Sanjiaodu serves a transportation function and is a harbor where local residents gather their livelihood boats. Besides engaging in agriculture on land, they raise ducks by the river, dig for clams, and fish in the river, which are vital means of making a living. However, due to river management, the functions of the wharf gradually diminished and disappeared. The history of Sanjiaodu bears witness to the changes of the Tamsui River, making it a space of great historical significance. Currently, there are only a little over ten small boats quietly recounting the past of the wharf. The skills are preserved by A-Zheng, a member of a shipbuilding family born at Sanjiaodu in Taipei, who learned shipbuilding at the age of seventeen and has crafted nearly 300 small boats and 100 dragon boats, making him one of the few hand-made dragon boat masters in Taiwan. His work ensures the continuation of craftsmanship and the sowing of culture, allowing memories of the waterfront to endure while reigniting passion in Sanjiaodu. Key landscape features include a hydrophilic riverside wharf, small boats and dragon boats, a base for dragon boat production, and Mr. Liu Qingzheng, a national treasure-level dragon boat maker.
