Sanjiao Ferry Terminal Introduction

Sanjiaodu, located in the area known as Hougangqian, connects Shezi Island, Jiantan, and Dalongdong (Dalong Pump). With the reclamation of land and the formation of villages, the reliance on the streets gradually became significant. Besides linking the streets, Sanjiaodu serves as a transportation hub and a harbor for local residents’ livelihood boats. In addition to farming on land, raising ducks by the riverside, and dredging clams and fishing in the river has been crucial for their survival. Due to river improvement projects, the dock's functions have gradually diminished and disappeared. The history of Sanjiaodu witnesses the changes of the Tamsui River, making it a space with profound historical significance. Currently, only around ten traditional boats quietly tell the past of the ferry at Sanjiaodu, preserved by Ah Zheng Si, a shipbuilding craftsman from a family in Taipei's Jiantan who learned shipbuilding at the age of seventeen and has built nearly 300 traditional boats and 100 dragon boats, making him one of the few remaining handcraft dragon boat makers in Taiwan. His skills pass on the craft and spread cultural seeds, allowing the memories of the waterfront to continue, and rekindling passion in Sanjiaodu. Scenic highlights include the waterfront dock, traditional boats and dragon boats, the dragon boat production base, and Mr. Liu Qingzheng, a national treasure-level dragon boat maker.
