Sanjiao Ferry Terminal Introduction
Sanjiao Ferry is located in a region known as Hougangqian. Hougangqian connects Shezi, Jiantan, and Dalongdong (Dalong Pump). With the reclamation of land and the formation of villages, the reliance on street markets gradually became more significant. In addition to connecting neighborhoods, Sanjiao Ferry serves as a harbor for local residents’ livelihood boats. Aside from farming on land, they also engage in duck farming by the riverside and harvest clams and fish in the river as important methods of making a living. Due to river management efforts, the functions of the dock gradually diminished and disappeared. The history of Sanjiao Ferry bears witness to the changes in the Tamsui River, making it a space of great historical significance. Currently, there are only about ten fishing boats at Sanjiao Ferry quietly narrating the past of the ferry. These stories are preserved by a craftsman named A-Zheng (born into a shipbuilding family in Taipei’s Sanjiao Ferry, who started learning shipbuilding at seventeen, having crafted nearly 300 fishing boats and 100 dragon boats, one of the few remaining handcrafted dragon boat masters in Taiwan), allowing skills to be passed down, cultural sowing to continue, and waterfront memories to persist, while also reigniting the warmth of Sanjiao Ferry. Key scenic features: including a waterfront dock, fishing boats and dragon boats, a dragon boat manufacturing base, and Mr. Liu Qingzheng, a national treasure-level dragon boat maker.
