Formosa Plastics Museum Introduction

Formed in 1954, Formosa Plastics Corporation began with a production of four tons of PVC powder daily, making it the smallest-scale manufacturer in the world at that time. After decades of hard work and overcoming various challenges, Formosa Plastics Corporation has now become one of the largest PVC powder manufacturers globally. The company not only sparked the nascent stages of the petrochemical industry in Taiwan but also spurred the vigorous development of the plastic processing industry, carrying significant implications for the nation’s economic growth. Starting from the plastic industry, Formosa Plastics Corporation diversified its business into petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, biotechnology, and more. It has also actively expanded its overseas investments, making it one of the largest privately held companies in Taiwan. Throughout its development, the company has adhered to the principle of "taking from society and giving back to society," and has engaged in social welfare initiatives in healthcare, education, and other areas to benefit the wider community. To document the company’s struggles and growth history, as well as to create a complete collection of artifacts related to its development, the Formosa Plastics Museum was established in 2004.
