Love Pier Introduction
Lover's Wharf, officially known as No. 12 Wharf, was originally a bulk cargo terminal but gradually declined with the rise of container shipping. Lover's Wharf stands at the mouth of the Love River, facing both Kaohsiung City and the Cijin Ferry Terminal. Its unique double-sail design symbolizes the dialogue between Kaohsiung City and the port, embodying the name "Lover's" and inspiring various romantic imaginations. Visitors can enjoy the modern urban landscape filled with skyscrapers in Kaohsiung and also experience the impressive sight of large ships entering the Kaohsiung harbor, each offering a different perspective during the day and night. Initiated by Amnesty International to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this global event calls for people worldwide to hold candles and form shapes reminiscent of flames wrapped in barbed wire, representing the enduring spirit of the human rights movement: "Instead of facing the darkness, let us light a candle to illuminate the world." On December 10, 2008, Human Rights Day, Taiwan connected with the world for the first time, arranging candles at Lover's Wharf in the human rights city of Kaohsiung to create the logo of Amnesty International. This huge candle display, made up of three thousand candles, formed the human rights emblem of Amnesty International, resulting in a spectacular and educational action art landscape.
