Lover's Wharf Introduction
The Love Pier, officially known as Pier 12, was originally a bulk cargo terminal but gradually declined with the rise of container ships. The Love Pier stands at the mouth of the Love River, facing both downtown Kaohsiung and the Cijin ferry terminal. Its unique double-sail design symbolizes the dialogue between Kaohsiung City and the harbor, earning it the name "Love," which fills visitors with various romantic imaginations. Here, one can enjoy the modern urban landscape of Kaohsiung with towering skyscrapers and also gaze at the Kaohsiung Harbor to experience the shock of large ships entering the port, showcasing different charms both day and night. Initiated by Amnesty International to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a global event brought together people in various locations and cities around the world to hold candles, forming shapes surrounded by barbed wire, representing the enduring spirit of the human rights movement: "Rather than face the darkness, let's light a candle to illuminate the world." On December 10, 2008, Human Rights Day, Taiwan connected with the global event for the first time at the Love Pier in the human rights city of Kaohsiung, arranging candles to form the logo of Amnesty International. A massive candle formation made up of three thousand candles presented the human rights emblem of Amnesty International, creating a spectacular and educational landscape of action art.
