Lover's Wharf Introduction
The Cihou Lighthouse, officially known as No. 12 Pier, was originally a bulk carrier terminal, but gradually declined with the rise of container ships. Cihou Lighthouse stands at the mouth of the Love River, facing Kaohsiung City and the Cijin Ferry Terminal. Its distinctive design, resembling a double-sailed wind turbine, symbolizes the dialogue between Kaohsiung and its harbor, earning it the name "Cihou," which evokes various romantic imaginations. Here, one can enjoy the modern urban landscape of Kaohsiung, filled with skyscrapers, as well as gaze out at Kaohsiung Harbor to experience the awe of large ships entering the port. Both day and night offer different scenic views. The event, initiated by Amnesty International to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights," gathered people across different places and cities worldwide, holding candles to form patterns reminiscent of a flame encircled by barbed wire. This symbolizes the enduring spirit of the human rights movement: "Instead of facing darkness, we light a candle to illuminate the world." On December 10, 2008, "Human Rights Day," Taiwan connected with the global event for the first time, using candles to form the logo of Amnesty International at Cihou Lighthouse, a massive flame created from three thousand candles, presenting the human rights emblem of Amnesty International and becoming a spectacular and educational land art installation.
