Kaohsiung Film Archive Introduction
The Kaohsiung Film Archive, located by the Love River, was established in 2001. It is a small and exquisite space that screens ticketed films daily and offers a variety of projection equipment, film collections, art films, and documentaries. It is the first socio-educational unit dedicated to promoting film culture in Kaohsiung. The archive is adjacent to the Love River and is surrounded by the mascot of the Kaohsiung Film Festival – the Fireball Film Reel Man, attracting many film enthusiasts. The twinkling blue and purple lights at night complement the shimmering waves of the Love River, and as a gentle breeze blows, lovers strolling in front of the archive whisper sweet nothings, revealing the romantic feelings associated with the Love River. The "Kaohsiung Film Archive," situated on the western bank of the Love River, operates on the concept of a "National Theater." It has bravely resisted political interference, notably screening the documentary "Ten Conditions of Love" about exiled Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer, which garnered attention from various circles. Inside, displays highlight "Old Theaters of Kaohsiung," "Kaohsiung in Films," and "Southern Filmmakers," contributing to the understanding of Kaohsiung's historical film culture and seeking to find a new mission and identity for the city's film development in the future.
