Kaohsiung Film Archive Introduction
The Kaohsiung Film Archives, located by the Love River, was established in 2001. It features a compact and exquisite space, with regular screenings of ticketed films and a variety of projection equipment, film literature, artistic films, and documentaries, making it the first social education unit in Kaohsiung dedicated to the promotion of film culture. The archives are adjacent to the Love River and are surrounded by the mascot of the Kaohsiung Film Festival—the Fireball Film Roll Man—attracting many film enthusiasts. At night, the twinkling blue and purple lights correspond with the shimmering waves of the Love River, creating a romantic atmosphere as lovers stroll through the plaza in front of the archives, whispering softly to each other, embodying the romance of the Love River. The "Kaohsiung Film Archives," located on the west bank of the Love River, operates under the concept of a "public cinema." It has bravely resisted political interference, screening the documentary "Ten Conditions of Love" about exiled Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer, which garnered attention from all sectors. Inside the archives, exhibitions showcase the "Old Cinemas of Kaohsiung," "Kaohsiung in Films," and "Southern Filmmakers," contributing to the historical and cultural film scene of Kaohsiung, and aiming to find new missions and identities for future film development in the city.
