Kaohsiung Film Archive Introduction
The Kaohsiung Film Archive, located by the Love River, was established in 2001. The space is compact and exquisite, with daily screenings of ticketed films and various screening facilities, film collections, art films, and documentaries. It is the first social education unit in Kaohsiung dedicated to promoting film culture. The archive is adjacent to the Love River and is surrounded by the mascot of the Kaohsiung Film Festival - the fiery film reel figure, attracting many film enthusiasts. At night, the twinkling blue and purple lights resonate with the shimmering waves of the Love River. When the breeze gently blows, lovers strolling in front of the film archive whisper sweet nothings, revealing the romantic sentiment of the Love River. The "Kaohsiung Film Archive" is located on the west bank of the Love River and operates under the concept of a "National Theater." It has resisted political interference, screening the documentary "Ten Conditions of Love" about exiled Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer, which garnered attention from various sectors. Inside the archive, exhibitions showcase the film culture within Kaohsiung's historical culture, including "Old Theaters of Kaohsiung," "Kaohsiung in Film," and "Southern Filmmakers," aiming to find a new mission and positioning for Kaohsiung in the future history of film development.
