Kaohsiung Film Archive Introduction
The Kaohsiung Film Archive, located by the Love River, was established in 2001. It is a small and exquisite space that screens ticketed films daily, offering various projection equipment, film literature, art films, and documentaries. It is the first institution in Kaohsiung dedicated to promoting film culture. The archive is adjacent to the Love River and is surrounded by the mascot of the Kaohsiung Film Festival—the Fireball film reel, attracting many movie enthusiasts. In the evening, the twinkling blue and purple lights reflect the shimmering waves of the Love River, creating a romantic atmosphere as couples stroll through the plaza in front of the archive, whispering to each other. The "Kaohsiung Film Archive" is located on the west bank of the Love River and operates under the concept of a "public cinema." It has stood against political interference by screening the documentary "Ten Conditions of Love," about exiled Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer, drawing attention from various sectors. Inside the archive, exhibitions showcase "Old Cinemas of Kaohsiung," "Kaohsiung in Film," and "Southern Filmmakers," contributing to the historical narrative of film culture in Kaohsiung and helping to find a new mission and position for the city's future in film development.
