Hengchun Lantern Festival Introduction
The Hengchun Burning Ghost Festival, which has a history of over a hundred years, is held annually after the Zhongyuan Festival at the East Gate of Hengchun. The event originated from the practice of wealthy individuals in Hengchun Town who would open the city gates during the Zhongyuan Festival. Unfortunately, many people were injured or even lost their lives in the rush to grab relief goods. To address this, a competition was designed involving "vertical lonely sheds" where participants would compete for the items placed atop the sheds.
