National Museum of Natural Science Introduction
Kaohsiung is a city with a highly developed heavy industry. In line with local industrial characteristics, the National Science and Technology Museum, the first museum in Taiwan themed around applied sciences, is located in the Sanmin District of Kaohsiung City. Its main mission is to collect and research technological artifacts, display science-related themes, and promote science education. The museum covers a vast area and is divided into the South Building and North Building. An outdoor area features an orrery, symbolizing the power of science and knowledge. Walking into the museum's spacious and brightly-lit exhibition halls feels like entering a time portal of science, where themed exhibition areas combine technology and everyday life, offering interactive experiences to introduce the development and impact of sciences like space, machinery, optoelectronics, and transportation on human evolution. Visitors can use an EasyCard to explore the Dream Transportation Pavilion, where they can personally operate various modes of transportation covering land, sea, and air; at the Space Exploration Pavilion, they can fly beyond Earth and explore the universe. In the immersive theater and 3D cinema, guests can experience the five senses through engaging activities, awakening the public's curiosity, knowledge-seeking, and yearning for the unknown world. The National Science and Technology Museum provides an educational and entertaining space for families and also houses many precious exhibits, including the full-scale wooden model of Taiwan's first domestically produced fighter jet, the IDF Ching-Kuo, which is considered a treasure of the museum and a pride of Taiwan's aerospace industry.
