National Museum of Science and Technology Introduction
Kaohsiung is a city with a highly developed heavy industry. In alignment with local industrial characteristics, the National Science and Technology Museum, the first museum in Taiwan themed on applied sciences, is located in the Sanmin District of Kaohsiung City. Its primary missions are to collect and research technological artifacts, display science-related themes, and promote science education. The museum spans a large area, divided into the South Pavilion and North Pavilion, with an outdoor area featuring an armillary sphere, symbolizing the power of science and knowledge. Entering the spacious and bright exhibition halls of the museum feels like stepping into a portal of scientific exploration, with thematic areas that blend technology and daily life, providing interactive experiences that introduce the scientific developments and impacts on human evolution in areas such as space, machinery, optoelectronics, and transportation. Visitors can use the EasyCard to explore the Transportation Dream Hall, where they can personally pilot various vehicles covering land, sea, and air; visit the Space Exploration Hall to fly out into the universe; and enjoy an immersive theater and 3D cinema for a rich sensory experience that awakens the public's curiosity and desire to explore the unknown. The educational yet entertaining National Science and Technology Museum is a family-friendly destination, also housing many precious exhibits, including a full-scale wooden model of Taiwan's first domestically produced fighter jet, the IDF Ching-kuo, which is a treasured highlight of the museum and a source of pride for Taiwan's aviation industry.
