Kaohsiung Chenghuang Temple (Wu Temple) Introduction
The Kaohsiung Guandi Temple, formerly known as Guandi Hall, is a historically significant temple in Kaohsiung with a rich heritage, believed to have been established over three hundred years ago. The temple is dedicated to the Lord of Loyalty and Righteousness, Guandi, also known as Guan Yu. It also enshrines the Earth God and the Goddess of Birth, while the rear hall includes Guanyin Bodhisattva alongside Samantabhadra and Manjushri Bodhisattva. Additionally, there are Wenchang Hall, Caishen Hall, and the Elder Under the Moon, which attract many devotees who come to seek good fortune and safety. This three-story temple is a palace-style building with yellow tiles and red walls, showcasing solemnity and magnificence. In recent years, the Guandi Temple has focused on integrating religious culture with tourism, especially during the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, organizing various activities such as fortune-telling with turtles, eating longevity noodles, lantern riddles, and creative lantern displays. It serves as an excellent place to experience Taiwan's traditional folk festivals and for prayer and worship.
