Kaohsiung Grand Temple (Wumiao) Introduction
Kaohsiung Guandi Temple, formerly known as Guandi Hall, is a temple with a long history and significant religious devotion in Kaohsiung, believed to have been established over three hundred years ago. The main deity enshrined is Guansheng Dijun (Guan Yu), a symbol of loyalty and righteousness, along with the deities Zhusun Niangniang and Fude Zhengshen. In the rear hall, Guanyin Bodhisattva is also worshipped, alongside Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and Manjushri Bodhisattva. The temple complex includes Wenchang Hall, Caishen Hall, and Yuexia Laoren Hall for worshippers, who flock here to pray for good fortune and peace. The three-story temple is a palace-style building with yellow tiles and red walls, exuding grandeur and elegance. In recent years, Guandi Temple has been working to integrate religious culture with tourism, especially holding events from the Lunar New Year to the Lantern Festival every year, including activities such as peace-turtle praying, eating longevity noodles, riddle guessing, and creative lantern exhibitions. It is the best place to understand traditional Taiwanese folk festivals and to make prayers for blessings.
