Kaohsiung Guan Di Temple (Martial Temple) Introduction
Kaohsiung Guandi Temple, formerly known as Guandi Hall, is a highly revered temple in Kaohsiung with a long history, believed to have been established for over three hundred years. The temple is dedicated to the God of War, Guan Yu, representing loyalty and righteousness, and also honors the Goddess of Birth and the God of Wealth. In the rear hall, it simultaneously worships Guanyin Bodhisattva, along with Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and Manjushri Bodhisattva. Additionally, there are the Wen Chang Hall, the Caishen Hall, and the Yue Xia Lao Ren shrine for devotees, always filled with worshippers praying for good fortune and safety. The three-story temple features a palace-style architecture with yellow tiles and red walls, exuding solemn grandeur. In recent years, Guandi Temple has actively combined religious culture with tourism, particularly hosting events from the Lunar New Year to the Lantern Festival, including activities such as the Peace-Granting Tortoise, eating longevity noodles, lantern riddles, and creative lantern exhibitions, making it an excellent place to learn about Taiwan's traditional cultural festivals and for prayer and worship.
