Kaohsiung Guandi Temple (Martial Temple) Introduction
The Kaohsiung Kuan Ti Temple, formerly known as the Kuan Ti Hall, is a temple with a rich history and significant patronage in Kaohsiung, believed to have been established over three hundred years ago. The temple primarily worships Kuan Sheng Ti Kung (Guan Yu), a symbol of loyalty and righteousness, along with the deity Zhi Sheng Niang Niang and the god of wealth, Fu De Zheng Shen. The rear hall also honors Guanyin Bodhisattva, along with Samantabhadra and Manjushri Bodhisattvas. Additionally, there are Wenchang Hall, Caishen Hall, and the Old Man Under the Moon, all attracting numerous devotees who come to pray for good fortune and peace. The three-story temple is characterized by its palace-style architecture with yellow tiles and red walls, exuding solemnity and grandeur. In recent years, the Kuan Ti Temple has worked to combine religious culture with tourism, especially hosting events during the period from Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival, including activities such as peace-asking turtle ceremonies, eating longevity noodles, guessing lantern riddles, and creative lantern displays, making it an excellent place to learn about Taiwan's traditional customs and festivals and to seek blessings.
