Lukang River Introduction
The Lugang Creek Drainage is located on the southern side of Lugang Township. During the Qing Dynasty, merchant ships could enter, serving as an early transportation waterway for trade with China. In addition, it is adjacent to the old street area, which was a hub for trading goods at that time. This has earned Lugang the reputation of "One Prefecture, Two Lugang, Three Bangka," and it bears witness to the bustling scene of ships entering the port. However, as time has passed, the current Lugang Creek Drainage has lost its early functions and has become a drainage channel for rainwater and sewage collection in the city. The county government has initiated the "Lugang Creek Revitalization Project" to connect the old street and the old town area, combining the lives of local residents to increase recreational spaces for residents and visitors. It aims to recreate the former splendor of the "Mother River" and restore cultural landscape features, thereby bringing back the charm of Lugang Creek. The waterfront corridor of Lugang Creek is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, featuring diverse spaces along the banks, including plazas, green belts, waterfront walkways, and a water stage. The water stage and sailing plaza provide venues for cultural performances. At both ends of the river section, the Kaiyuan Plaza and the Sailing Plaza feature two public art installations, "Fortunate Deer" and "Deer Floating on Water." Additionally, there are water dance performances at Kaiyuan Plaza every evening from 6 PM to 9 PM. The transformation of Lugang Creek offers cultural and leisure spaces for tourists and local residents, enhancing the overall environment.
