Lukang River Introduction
Lukang Creek Drainage is located on the southern side of Lukang Township. During the Qing Dynasty, merchant ships could navigate into the area, serving as an early transportation waterway for trade with China. It is also adjacent to the old street area, which was a hub for goods transactions at that time. This has earned Lukang the reputation of "One Capital, Two Lukang, Three Bangka," and it serves as a testament to the bustling scene of countless ships entering the port in the past. However, as time has passed, the current Lukang Creek Drainage has lost its early function and has become a drainage ditch for rainwater and sewage, collecting rainwater and wastewater from the urban area. The county government, through the "Lukang Creek Revitalization Project," links the old street and old town area, integrates the lives of local residents, and enhances recreational spaces for both locals and visitors. This project aims to restore the former reputation of the mother river, revitalize the cultural landscape, and showcase the splendor of Lukang Creek from the past. The creekside corridor stretches approximately 1.5 kilometers, featuring diverse spaces such as plazas, green belts, waterfront walkways, and a water stage along the banks. The water stage and the sail plaza provide venues for artistic performances. At both ends of the river segment, the Kaiyuan Plaza and Sail Plaza host two public art installations, "Lucky Deer Beast" and "Deer on a Boat," respectively. Additionally, the Kaiyuan Plaza features a water dance performance every night from 6 PM to 9 PM. The transformation of Lukang Creek offers a cultural and recreational space for visitors and local residents alike, improving the surrounding environment.
