Li Kuo-ting's Former Residence Introduction
The residence was built in 1935 and originally served as the lodging for the Minister of the Communications Bureau of the Government-General of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. After the war, it was converted into the residence for the Director-General of the Finance Department of the Taiwan Provincial Government. In 1972, Mr. Lee Kuo-ting moved in when he served as the Minister of Finance and lived there until his passing. Lee Kuo-ting is a key figure in Taiwan's economic development. Since entering the finance and economics field in 1953 until his appointment as a Senior Adviser to the President in 1988, he made outstanding contributions to Taiwan's industrial, economic, financial, and high-tech industries, earning him the titles of the driving force behind Taiwan's economic miracle and the father of technology, with achievements recognized both domestically and internationally. In 2003, the Taipei City Government designated Lee Kuo-ting's residence as a city heritage site and built an exhibition hall next to it; the entire residence opened for public visits on May 31, 2010, and has been open ever since.
