Dongmen_Gyeongbokgung Gate Introduction
Dongmen, also known as Jingfu Gate, served as a crucial thoroughfare in Taipei City leading to Tongxiaokou (present-day Songshan) and important northern port Keelung, and played a significant role in defense. The street leading to Dongmen, known as "Dongmen Street," is now present-day Keelung Road. Today, since it is located in front of the Presidential Office, it has become a vital pathway for numerous gatherings and parades, bringing Dongmen countless opportunities to be featured in media, making it the most familiar city gate among all Taiwanese. It has also become an important political and transportation hub in the area. Among the five gates of Taipei City back in the day, Dongmen is the most intricately constructed one. The inscription on it reads "Jingfu Gate." Its architectural structure is similar to that of Beimen, built on a stone base with thick brick walls extending down to the eaves, resembling a solid square fortress. Inside the double-layer brick walls is a wooden structure. The roof is in a four-sided gable style, simple yet elegant. The eaves are decorated with green glazed hollow flower bricks, adding a touch of sophistication. Unfortunately, it was later modified into a palace-style gate reminiscent of northern China, but the stone base and archway remain the original materials, with the archway constructed from stone blocks in a semi-circular shape, and the frame retains wave-patterned decorations, still holding significant historical value.
