Dongmun_Gyeongbokgung Gate Introduction

Dongmen, also known as Jingfu Gate, is a passageway in Taipei City that leads to Tongxi Kou (now Songshan). It has significant defensive importance as it faces the important northern port of Keelung. The street leading to Dongmen, known as "Dongmen Street" at the time, is today's Ketagalan Boulevard. Now situated in front of the Presidential Office, it has become a necessary route for many gatherings and parades, bringing countless photographic opportunities, making it arguably the most familiar city gate to all Taiwanese and a vital political and traffic hub in the area. Among the five city gates of Taipei City at that time, Dongmen is the most delicately constructed. The gate is inscribed with "Jingfu Gate" and has a similar architectural structure to Beimen, built on a stone base with a substantial brick wall extending to the eaves, resembling an impregnable square fortress. Inside the double-layer brick walls is a wooden structure. The roof features a simple and elegant "Xieshan" style with sloping eaves on all sides. The eaves are adorned with green glazed hollow flower bricks, which are very elegant. Unfortunately, it was later remodeled into a palace-style city tower typical of northern China, but the stone base and round arch doors are made of original materials. The archway is constructed with stone blocks, and the frame retains intricate thunder pattern decorations, still holding considerable historical value.
