Bisyli Shore Introduction
Pisirian is a small coastal village located in the Sanxian community of Chenggong Township. In the past, it was a place for the Amis people to raise sheep. Throughout the village, one can see the works of artist Jimmy Liao, art installations made from driftwood in the shape of sheep, and the renowned Paw Paw Drum Band, which fills this little village with a sense of childhood wonder. Today, follow in the footsteps of the little girl from Jimmy Liao's "An Afternoon Toward Spring" as you embark on a journey to discover the 11 painted spots scattered throughout the Pisirian village, further exploring the tranquil and simple beauty of the community. The name "Pisirian" in the Amis language means "the place for raising sheep." The term "siri" refers to goats in the Amis language. In the past, the Amis people living in this area used the ebb and flow of the tides to graze their sheep on Sanxiantai Island. However, as time has passed, the village no longer sees sheep. With the continual outflow of the youth from the village and the cultural gap in the Amis age organization, the Sanxian Community Development Association, along with local residents, children, and artists, is working together to promote community building and create a new atmosphere for village development. In addition to Jimmy Liao’s artworks and the wooden sheep, Pisirian is home to the original sounds of the community—the Paw Paw Drum Band, composed of local children. This vigorous and powerful group has gained acclaim overseas, producing loud and rhythmic sounds with their self-made drums, complemented by the pure and clear voices of the children, showcasing their vibrant vitality. If you have the chance to visit Pisirian, consider booking a performance to hear the resounding indigenous songs of the East Coast. The vibrant murals at Pisirian feature a massive painting on the exterior walls of abandoned houses, hand-painted by local youth and children. The warm tones of red, yellow, and orange are interspersed with several leaping white sheep that embody the energetic spirit and vitality of the children running through the village! Additionally, the old structures have been transformed into guesthouse spaces, allowing travelers coming to Pisirian to not only visit the Jimmy Liao exhibition area and maze, and appreciate the village's art installations but also to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty surrounded by mountains and sea, while tasting the innovative local delicacies.
