Chenggong New Harbor Fishing Port Introduction
Chenggong Township was previously known as "Malouluo," and in 1921 was renamed "Xingang" by the Japanese, later changed to "Chenggong" after the war. The Qilin culture dating back 3,500 years is prominently represented by artifacts unearthed in Chenggong Township, indicating the area's early origins. Chenggong Xingang Fishing Port is the largest fishing port on the East Coast, facing the Pacific Ocean, in the waters traversed by the Kuroshio Current. The rich marine resources, including swordfish, marlin, and skipjack tuna, have fostered Chenggong's unique spear-fishing techniques and the thriving development of its fishing culture. Every October, when the northeast monsoon blows, it is the peak season for swordfish. The fishing techniques used by local fishermen preserve the fresh and firm texture of the swordfish, making it a favorite among food enthusiasts, who flock to Chenggong to enjoy delicious swordfish meals! Chenggong, blessed with the passage of the Kuroshio Current, is also a great place for whale watching! Riding on whale-watching boats, one can experience the beautiful East Coast islands while having the opportunity to see dolphins leaping in the sea, creating unforgettable moments. Aside from whale watching and indulging in swordfish in winter, Chenggong Township also offers a variety of local delicacies and souvenirs, such as juicy swordfish steaks, smooth Chenggong tofu pudding, and handmade pastries made from local ingredients, all of which are must-try foods when visiting Chenggong!
