Chenggong New Port Fishing Harbor Introduction
Chenggong Township was formerly known as "Malau Lu Society," and in 1921, it was renamed "Xingang" by the Japanese. After the war, it was changed to "Chenggong." The origins of this area date back to the Qilin culture 3,500 years ago, with artifacts discovered in Chenggong Township serving as evidence of its early settlement. Chenggong New Port is the largest fishing port in the East Coast region, facing the Pacific Ocean, and situated in the waters of the Kuroshio Current. The rich marine resources such as swordfish, marlin, and skipjack have led to the unique spear-fishing techniques in Chenggong, as well as a thriving fishing culture. Every October, as the northeast monsoon begins, it marks the peak season for marlin. Fishers’ distinctive spear-fishing skills preserve the fresh and tender texture of marlin, making it a favorite among gourmets from all over, who flock to Chenggong to indulge in delicious marlin dishes! Chenggong, located in the path of the Kuroshio Current, is also a great spot for whale watching! Taking a whale-watching boat through the waves, one can gaze at the beautiful East Coast islands, and there's a chance to see dolphins jumping in the sea—a truly unforgettable sight. In addition to whale watching and enjoying marlin in winter, Chenggong Township also offers various local snacks and souvenirs. Juicy swordfish fillet, creamy Chenggong tofu pudding, and handmade pastries made from local ingredients are must-try delicacies that should not be missed when visiting Chenggong!
