Chenggong New Port Fishing Port Introduction
Chenggong Township was formerly known as "Malalou Village." In 1921, it was renamed "Xingang" by the Japanese and changed to "Chenggong" after the war. With a history dating back 3,500 years to the Qilin culture, the archaeological finds in Chenggong Township indicate that this area has ancient origins. Chenggong Xingang Fishing Port is the largest fishing port in the east coast region, facing the Pacific Ocean, and is located in the waters traversed by the Kuroshio Current. The abundant marine resources, including swordfish, marlin, and bonito, have led to the unique spearfishing techniques in Chenggong and a vibrant fishing culture. Every October, when the northeast monsoon blows in, it marks the peak season for marlin. The fishermen's distinctive spearfishing skills ensure that the marlin retains its fresh and chewy texture, making it a favorite among food enthusiasts who flock to Chenggong for its delicious marlin feasts! Chenggong, located in the path of the Kuroshio Current, is also a great spot for whale watching! Riding a whale-watching boat, braving the waves while gazing at the beautiful east coastal islands, visitors have the chance to see dolphins leaping joyfully in the ocean—these beautiful moments are always unforgettable. In addition to whale watching and enjoying marlin in winter, Chenggong Township offers various local snacks and souvenirs, such as juicy swordfish fillets, creamy Chenggong tofu pudding, and handmade pastries made from local ingredients, all of which are must-try delicacies when visiting Chenggong!
