Chenggong New Port Fishing Harbor Introduction
Chenggong Township was formerly known as "Ma Lao Lou She," and in 1921, the Japanese renamed it "Xin Gang," later changed to "Chenggong" after the war. The Qilin culture, dating back 3,500 years, is evident from the artifacts unearthed in Chenggong Township, indicating its early origins. Chenggong New Harbor Fishing Port is the largest fishing port in the East Coast region, facing the Pacific Ocean and situated in an area traversed by the Kuroshio current, which brings rich marine resources such as swordfish, marlin, and bonito. This has led to the unique craftsmanship of Chenggong’s harpooning technique for marlin and a thriving fishing culture. Every October, when the northeast monsoon blows in, it is the peak season for marlin fishing. Fishermen’s specialized skills in capturing marlin ensure that the fish retains its fresh and firm texture, making it a favorite among food enthusiasts who flock to Chenggong for delicious marlin feasts! Chenggong, located along the Kuroshio current, is also a great place for whale watching! Riding a whale-watching boat through the waves while enjoying the beautiful East Coast islands, there is also a chance to see dolphins jumping in the sea—those beautiful moments are always unforgettable. Besides whale watching and indulging in marlin during winter, Chenggong Township offers various local snacks and souvenirs. Juicy swordfish fillets, creamy Chenggong tofu pudding, and handmade pastries made from local ingredients are all must-try delicacies when visiting Chenggong!
