Qiongba Industrial History Showcase Area Introduction
Leaving the Dongbi Lake Fishing Port and heading towards Longluan Lake, a right turn at the signage for the south bank of Longluan Lake will lead you to the entrance sign of the Qiongma Industrial Exhibition Area. The Kenting National Park Administration has transformed the machinery rooms, drying fields, warehouses, dormitories, and the Japanese shrine - Torii - left by the Qiongma Factory into an exhibition area, where visitors can gain a comprehensive understanding of Qiongma, the manufacturing process, and the rise and fall of the Hengchun Qiongma industry. Originally established by the Taiwan Fiber Company in 1913 as the "Hengchun Hemp Field," it was an important base for promoting Qiongma cultivation and rope production. After the retrocession, the successful export of hemp rope to Japan created the golden age of the Qiongma industry. However, in the 1970s, the rise of nylon rope replaced Qiongma's position, leading to the closure of the Hengchun Hemp Field in 1983. In 1995, the Kenting National Park Administration repurposed the remaining equipment at the site, planning it as the Qiongma Industrial Historical Exhibition Area, showcasing the history of the development of the Hengchun Qiongma industry and providing free admission to visitors.
