Qiongma Industrial History Exhibition Area Introduction
Leaving the Back Bay Fishing Port and heading towards Longluan Lake, a right turn at the sign for the south bank of Longluan Lake will lead you to the entrance of the Qiongma Industrial Exhibition Area. The Kenting National Park Administration has preserved the machinery room, drying yard, warehouse, dormitory, and the Japanese shrine - Torii - from the Qiongma factory and planned them as an exhibition area, where you can fully understand Qiongma, the manufacturing process, and the rise and fall of the Qiongma industry in Hengchun. Originally established in 1913 by the Taiwan Fiber Company as the "Hengchun Hemp Field," it served as an important base for promoting Qiongma cultivation and rope-making. After the restoration, the successful export of hemp ropes to Japan created the golden era of Qiongma industry. In the 1970s, the emergence of nylon ropes replaced the status of Qiongma, leading to the closure of the Hengchun Hemp Field in 1983. In 1995, the Kenting National Park Management Office repurposed the facilities left behind into a historical exhibition area showcasing the development history of the Qiongma industry in Hengchun, which is open for free visits to tourists.
