Qiongma Industrial History Exhibition Area Introduction
Leaving the Dapeng Bay Fisherman's Wharf and heading towards Longluan Lake, make a right turn at the sign for the southern bank of Longluan Lake, and you will see the entrance sign for the Qiongma Industrial Exhibition Area. The Kenting National Park Management Office has transformed the machinery rooms, drying fields, warehouses, dormitories, and the Japanese shrine (Torii) left behind by the Qiongma factory into an exhibition area, where visitors can fully understand Qiongma, the manufacturing process, and the rise and fall of Qiongma's history in Hengchun. Originally established in 1913 by the Taiwan Fiber Company as the "Hengchun Hemp Field," it played a vital role in promoting Qiongma cultivation and rope manufacturing. After the restoration of Taiwan, the successful export of hemp ropes to Japan ushered in the golden era of the Qiongma industry. However, in the 1970s, the rise of nylon ropes led to the closure of the Hengchun Hemp Field in 1983. In 1995, the Kenting National Park Management Office repurposed the remaining equipment to create the Qiongma Industrial History Exhibition Area, showcasing the history of the Qiongma industry in Hengchun, which is open to visitors for free.
