Houbi Lake Introduction
Houbihu is located in Daguang Village, Hengchun Township. Originally a small fishing village, it has gradually developed into the largest fishing port within Kenting National Park due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the fishing grounds of the Bashi Channel, where cold and warm currents converge, resulting in abundant fishery resources. The port area is spacious, and the waterways are deep, making it a hub of both fishing and tourism. The waters around Houbihu are home to a wide variety of fish, with peak seasons for Mahi-mahi, flying fish, and sailfish occurring from April to July, while from October to March of the following year, white marlin and black marlin are most plentiful. Almost all the fresh catch needed by the local market in Hengchun is provided by Houbihu Fishing Port, where residents and tourists can often be seen bustling to select fresh seafood. To promote tourism development in Houbihu, a marina and docking area have been constructed within the fishing port, offering recreational facilities such as entertainment fishing boats, jet skis, yachts, sailboats, parasailing, banana boats, and semi-submersible sightseeing boats, allowing visitors to enjoy exciting water activities. Due to the presence of numerous coral reefs and marine life near Houbihu Fishing Port, the waters between Cape Eluanbi and Houbihu have been designated as a special scenic area of Kenting National Park for the operation of recreational fishing boats. The water in this area is clear and clean, with precious soft corals and hard corals visible on the seabed, abundant marine life such as seaweed, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, eels, shrimp, shellfish, and tropical fish, making it a paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. During the flying fish season in April and May each year, one can also enjoy the graceful sight of flying fish and dolphins, outlining the beautiful seascape.
