Houbihu Introduction
Houbihu, located in Dagangli of Hengchun Township, was originally a small fishing village. Due to its proximity to the fishing grounds of the Pacific Ocean and the Bashi Channel, and the convergence of cold and warm currents in the nearby waters, it has abundant fishery resources. Additionally, with a spacious port area and deep navigation channels, it gradually developed into the largest fishing port within Kenting National Park, serving as a harbor with both fishing and tourism resources. The waters near Houbihu are rich in fish species, with peak seasons for mahi-mahi, flying fish, and marlin occurring from April to July each year, while the highest catch of white marlin and black marlin is from October to around March of the following year. Nearly all of the fresh seafood needed by the local market in Hengchun is supplied by Houbihu Fishing Port, where the lively scene of local residents and tourists selecting fresh seafood is often witnessed. To promote tourism development in Houbihu, additional facilities such as a yacht dock and mooring area have been established within the fishing port, along with recreational options including fishing boats, jet skis, yachts, sailboats, parasailing, banana boats, and sightseeing semi-submersibles, allowing visitors to enjoy exciting water activities. Due to the presence of many coral reefs and marine life near Houbihu Fishing Port, the waters between Maobitou and Houbihu have been designated as a special scenic area within Kenting National Park, aligned with the operational goals of recreational fishing boats. The water quality in this area is clear and pristine, with precious soft corals and stony corals visible on the seabed. The variety and quantity of marine life, including seaweeds, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, eels, shrimp, shellfish, and tropical fish, are abundant. During the flying fish season in April and May, visitors can also admire the graceful figures of flying fish and dolphins, painting a beautiful ocean landscape, making it a favorite underwater paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts.
