Houbihu Introduction
Houbihu is located in Daguang Village of Hengchun Township. Originally just a small fishing village, it has developed into the largest fishing port within Kenting National Park due to its proximity to fishing grounds near the Pacific Ocean and the Bashi Channel, where cold and warm currents converge, leading to rich fishery resources. With a spacious harbor and deep waterways, Houbihu has become a port that integrates both fishing and tourism resources. The waters near Houbihu are home to a variety of fish, with peak seasons for species such as flying fish, swordfish, and marlin occurring from April to July, and the highest catches of white-skinned swordfish and black-skinned swordfish from October to March of the following year. Almost all fresh fish needed by the local market in Hengchun are supplied by Houbihu Fishing Port, where locals and tourists can often be seen bustling to select fresh seafood. To promote tourism development in Houbihu, a yacht marina and additional docking areas have been established within the fishing port, allowing for recreational fishing boats, jet skis, yachts, sailboats, parasailing, banana boats, and semi-submersible sightseeing boats, enabling visitors to enjoy exciting water activities. Due to the numerous coral reefs and marine life near Houbihu Fishing Port, the waters between Cat Nose Head and Houbihu have been planned as a special scenic area within the marine territory of Kenting National Park, in line with the operational goals of recreational fishing boats. This area features clear and clean water with precious soft corals and hard corals visible on the seabed, as well as an abundance of marine life such as seaweeds, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, moray eels, shrimp, shellfish, and tropical fish. During the flying fish season in April and May each year, visitors can also witness the graceful figures of flying fish and dolphins, creating a beautiful natural ocean scenery, making it a favorite underwater paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts.
