Houbi Lake Introduction
Houbihu is located in Daguan Village, Hengchun Township. Originally just a small fishing village, it has developed into the largest fishing port within Kenting National Park due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the fishing grounds in the Bashi Channel, where cold and warm currents converge, making the fishery resources quite abundant. Its spacious harbor and deep water channels have transformed it into a port that supports both fishing and tourism. The waters near Houbihu are rich in fish varieties, with peak seasons for flying fish, swordfish, and dorado occurring from April to July, while from October to March of the following year, the catch of sailfish is at its highest. Nearly all fresh seafood required by the local market in Hengchun is provided by Houbihu Fishing Port, where local residents and tourists can often be seen bustling about, selecting fresh seafood. To promote tourism development in Houbihu, a yacht dock and mooring area have been built in the fishing port, allowing for recreational activities such as entertainment fishing boats, jet skis, yachts, sailboats, parasailing, banana boats, and sightseeing semi-submersibles, enabling visitors to enjoy thrilling water activities. Due to the presence of many coral reefs and marine life near Houbihu Fishing Port, the waters between Cape Eluanbi and Houbihu have been planned as a special landscape area within Kenting National Park in conjunction with the recreational fishing boat operations. This area boasts clear and clean water, with valuable soft corals and hard corals visible on the seabed, and an abundance of marine life including seaweed, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, eels, shrimp, shellfish, tropical fish, and more. During the flying fish season in April and May, one can also witness the graceful figures of flying fish and dolphins, creating a stunning marine landscape that has become a favorite paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts.
