Houbihu Introduction
Houbihu is located in Daguang Village, Hengchun Township. It was originally a small fishing village, but due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the fishing grounds near the Bashi Channel, along with the convergence of cold and warm currents, the fisheries resources are abundant. The harbor is spacious and the waterway is deep, which led to its gradual development into the largest fishing port within Kenting National Park. It is a port that integrates both fishery and tourism resources. The waters near Houbihu are home to numerous fish species, with April to July being the peak season for swordfish, flying fish, and umbrella fish, while from October to March of the following year, the highest catches are of white and black marlin. Almost all of the fresh seafood needed by the local market in Hengchun comes from Houbihu Fishing Port, where a lively scene can often be seen of local residents and tourists competing for fresh seafood. To promote tourism development in Houbihu, a yacht harbor and docking area were established within the fishing port, and various recreational facilities such as entertainment fishing boats, jet skis, yachts, sailboats, parasailing, banana boats, and sightseeing semi-submersibles were opened to allow visitors to enjoy exciting and interesting water activities. Due to the abundant coral reefs and marine life in the vicinity of Houbihu Fishing Port, an area between Cat Nose Cape and Houbihu was specially designated as a scenic area within the marine area of Kenting National Park, in line with the operational objectives of the recreational fishing boats. The water quality in this area is clear and clean, with precious soft corals and stony corals visible on the seabed. The variety and quantity of marine life, including seaweed, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, eels, shrimp, shellfish, and tropical fish, are countless. During the flying fish season in April and May, visitors can also appreciate the graceful figures of flying fish and dolphins, depicting a beautiful natural marine view, making it a favorite underwater paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts.
