The beams and pillars of the houses along both sides of the Southern Cross-Island Highway are almost wrapped in Bunun totems, while numerous wooden and stone sculptures are seemingly casually placed along the sidewalks. Visitors strolling through this area experience not only a rich indigenous atmosphere but also the passionate personality of the residents of Meilan Li. Since 1999, the La'aflan community has been planning and establishing the Lafland Bunun Art Village, securing various levels of subsidies for promotion and actively nurturing craftsmanship talent within the community, including traditional Bunun weaving, wood and stone carving, and pottery creation. The newly completed community cultural performance venue further realizes the ideals of the art village. Besides hosting large events such as the Bunun Ear-Flicking Festival, the community also utilizes the performance space for exchange and exhibitions, revitalizing the community’s functions and making the Lafland Bunun Art Village more fitting of its name. Next time you pass by, don't forget to slow down, take photos with the beautiful artistic streetscape, and truly feel the embodiment of the beautiful culture of the Bunun people. Located behind the La'aflan community is the "Lafland Art Village Leisure Trail," which takes about 30 minutes to walk the entire length. The path is constructed with sleepers intertwined with farm paths, offering a unique experience along the way. At the highest point of the trail, there is a pavilion where you can rest and enjoy a view of the village landscape.
