The beams and columns of houses along the Southern Cross-Island Highway are almost entirely adorned with Bunun tribe totems, while the sidewalks casually display numerous wooden and stone sculptures. As visitors stroll through, they can experience not only the rich indigenous culture but also the warm and lively personality of the Mei-Lan villagers. Since 1999, the Lafulan community has been developing the Lafulan Bunun Art Village. In addition to seeking subsidies from various levels of government, the community actively cultivates craft talents, including traditional Bunun weaving, wood and stone carving, and pottery. The newly completed community cultural performance venue further realizes the ideals of the art village. Besides hosting large events such as the Bunun Ear-piercing Ceremony, the community regularly uses the performance venue for exchange exhibitions, revitalizing community functions and making the Lafulan Bunun Art Village truly live up to its name. Next time you pass through here, don’t forget to slow down, take photos with the beautiful artistic streetscape, and sincerely immerse yourself in the splendid culture of the Bunun tribe. Located behind the Lafulan Village is the "Lafulan Art Village Leisure Trail," which can be traversed in about 30 minutes. The trail is built with sleepers interspersed with small agricultural paths, providing a unique experience as one walks along it. At the highest point of the trail, there is a gazebo where visitors can rest and enjoy views of the village landscape.
