Lafran Arts Village Introduction

The beams and pillars of the houses along the Southern Cross-Island Highway are almost entirely adorned with Bunun tribal totems, and along the sidewalks, there are seemingly casually placed wooden and stone sculptures. Tourists strolling through feel not only the rich indigenous culture but also the vibrant personality of the local residents in Meilan. Since the year 1999, Lafanlan community has started planning the Lafanlan Bunun Art Village, seeking subsidies from various levels of government to promote it. The community has also actively trained artisans in traditional Bunun craftsmanship, such as weaving, wood and stone carving, and ceramics. The newly completed community cultural performance venue further embodies the ideals of the art village. In addition to hosting large events like the Bunun ear-piercing festival, the community also frequently utilizes the performance space for exchange performances, revitalizing community function and making Lafanlan Bunun Art Village more genuinely representative of its name. Next time you pass by here, don’t forget to slow down, take photos with the beautiful artistic streetscape, and sincerely appreciate the manifestation of the Bunun tribe's beautiful culture. Located behind Lafanlan Village is the "Lafanlan Art Village Leisure Trail," which takes about 30 minutes to walk the full length. The trail features wooden sleepers interspersed with farm paths, giving a unique flavor to the walking experience. At the highest point of the trail, there is a pavilion where you can rest and enjoy a view of the village scenery.
