Lafran Arts Village Introduction

The beams and pillars of houses along the South Cross-Island Highway are almost entirely wrapped in Bunun totems, and many wooden and stone sculptures are casually placed along the sidewalks. Visitors strolling through this area not only experience a rich indigenous atmosphere but also the vibrant personalities of the residents of Meilan Li. Since 1999, the Lafran community has been planning and establishing the Lafran Bunun Art Village. In addition to striving for financial aid from various governmental levels, the community actively nurtures craft talents such as traditional Bunun weaving, wood and stone carving, and pottery creation. The newly completed community cultural performance venue further realizes the ideals of the art village, hosting large events like the Bunun Ear-piercing Festival, while also serving as a space for regular performances and exchanges, revitalizing community functionality and making the Lafran Bunun Art Village truly fitting of its name. Next time you pass by, don't forget to slow down, take photos with the beautiful artistic street scenery, and deeply feel the manifestation of the Bunun people's beautiful culture. Located behind the Lafran Li village is the "Lafran Art Village Leisure Trail," which takes about 30 minutes to walk the entire length. The trail is constructed with sleepers, interspersed with small farm paths, offering a unique experience as you walk. At the high point of the trail, there is a pavilion where visitors can rest and enjoy the scenic view of the village.
