Lao Mei Green Stone Slit Introduction
The Laomei Green Reef was voted by CNN as one of Taiwan's eight hidden gems. The vibrant green algae and the blue sea reflect beautifully against each other, creating a dreamy green glow on the northern coast from February to May each year. This breathtaking sight not only attracts photography enthusiasts capturing stunning moments but is also a popular check-in spot for influencers on Instagram and newlyweds for pre-wedding photo shoots. The Laomei Green Reef is located in Laomei Village, Shimen District, New Taipei City, and was originally volcanic rock left along the coast after the eruption of the Tatun Volcano. Over a long period of wave erosion, the softer parts of the rock have been worn away, leaving behind harder sections that formed longitudinal grooves. The waves brought by the northeast monsoon crash against the surface of the reef, moistening the rocky surface and gradually nurturing green algae such as stone seaweed and sea hair, creating the stunning seasonal scenery of the "Green Reef." This natural landscape, caused by algae growth, has faced survival threats in recent years due to the warm winter effect and human trampling. The green reef is very slippery and can cause falls and injuries; therefore, it is advised not to step on the reef to avoid damaging the growth environment. It is recommended to enjoy the view from the beach to ensure the precious green reef can survive sustainably.
