Laomei Green Reef Introduction
Laomei Green Reefs was voted one of Taiwan's eight hidden gems by CNN. The vibrant green algae and the blue sea complement each other, creating a dreamy green light scene along the northern coast from February to May each year. It not only attracts photography enthusiasts to capture stunning moments but is also a must-visit spot for social media influencers and couples for wedding photos. Laomei Green Reefs is located in Laomei Village, Shimen District, New Taipei City. Originally a volcanic rock formation left by the eruption of the Datun Volcano, it has been shaped over time by wave erosion. The softer parts have eroded away, leaving the harder sections to form longitudinal grooves. The waves brought by the northeast monsoon hit the surface of the reefs, nourishing the rock surface, which gradually gives rise to green seaweed, such as sea lettuce and hair algae, resulting in the awe-inspiring seasonal beauty of the "Green Reefs." The reefs are a natural spectacle created by algae growth, but in recent years, they have faced survival threats due to the effects of mild winters and human trampling. The green reefs can be very slippery and hazardous, so it is advised not to step on the reefs to avoid damaging their growing environment. Instead, it is recommended to enjoy them from the beach, allowing the precious green reefs to thrive sustainably.
