Laomei Green Reef Introduction
Laomei Green Reef was voted one of Taiwan's eight hidden gems by CNN. The vibrant green algae contrast beautifully with the blue sea, creating a dreamy green light spectacle on the North Coast from February to May each year. It not only attracts photography enthusiasts who linger to capture stunning moments but also serves as a popular Instagram check-in spot and must-visit place for couples on their wedding photo shoots. Laomei Green Reef is located in Laomei Village, Shimen District, New Taipei City. It is originally a volcanic rock left behind by the eruption of the Datun Volcano. Over time, the softer parts have been eroded by waves, leaving behind harder sections that formed elongated grooves. The waves brought by the Northeast Monsoon hit the surface of the reef, moisturizing it and allowing green seaweed, such as green stonewort and sea hair, to thrive, creating an astonishing seasonal beauty known as the "Green Reef." The reef is a natural landscape created by the growth of seaweed, but in recent years, it has faced threats due to warm winter effects and human trampling. The Green Reef is very slippery and easy to fall on, so please do not step on the reef to avoid damaging its growing environment. It is recommended to appreciate it from the beach to ensure the precious Green Reef can survive sustainably.
