Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park Introduction
The Takata Yūichi Memorial Park was established to commemorate Mr. Takata Yūichi, the builder of the Chianan Canal. Takata Yūichi is also known as the "Father of the Chianan Canal." In 1910, he arrived in southern Taiwan to engage in the lengthy exploration work for the Wushantou Reservoir and the Chianan Canal. Located to the north of the Wushantou Reservoir, the Takata Yūichi Memorial Park underwent renovations in 2009 and officially opened in 2011, featuring a complete collection of traditional Japanese architecture. To faithfully preserve its original appearance, engineers responsible for the restoration traveled to Takata Yūichi's hometown in Ishikawa Prefecture to study local architectural characteristics, and employed Japanese carpentry techniques as the basis for the renovations, aiming to align the park closer to Japanese architectural aesthetics. The furniture inside the Takata residence is arranged just as it was in the past, making visitors feel as if they have stepped into a time tunnel. The outdoor garden showcases a picturesque landscape of small bridges and flowing water, with a pond designed in the shape of Taiwan, further reflecting Takata Yūichi's deep affection for this land.
