Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park Introduction
The Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park was established to commemorate Mr. Hatta Yoichi, the builder of the Chianan Canal. Hatta Yoichi is known as the "Father of the Chianan Canal." In 1910, he arrived in southern Taiwan to engage in the lengthy exploratory work of the Wushantou Reservoir and the Chianan Canal. Located on the northern side of the Wushantou Reservoir, the Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park underwent renovation in 2009 and officially opened in 2011, featuring a complete set of Japanese-style buildings. To faithfully preserve its original appearance, the engineers responsible for the restoration even traveled to Hatta Yoichi's hometown in Ishikawa Prefecture to investigate local architectural characteristics, using traditional Japanese carpentry techniques as the basis for the renovation, all to make the park closer to Japanese architectural aesthetics. The furniture and decor in Hatta's residence are arranged as they were in the past, giving visitors the feeling of stepping into a time tunnel. The outdoor garden features picturesque scenes of small bridges and flowing water, with the water pool designed in the shape of Taiwan itself, further reflecting Hatta Yoichi's deep affection for this land.
