Wu Chih-hui Memorial Park Introduction
Located next to the Shuitou Wharf, it offers a clear view of the ships entering and leaving the Shuitou Harbor. The park is shaded by lush greenery and features a memorial inscription personally inscribed by Chiang Kai-shek, along with a statue of Wu Zhihui. Mr. Wu Zhihui, whose courtesy name is Jingheng, was from Wujin, Jiangsu and was a master of Confucianism, deeply respected by the Chinese people. He was also a teacher to Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo. On October 30, 1953, Wu Zhihui passed away in Taipei. Before his death, he requested to be buried at sea in the waters near Kinmen. On December 1 of the same year, Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo personally escorted his ashes to Kinmen, where they were scattered in Shuitou Bay. The Wu Zhihui Memorial Park was then established to commemorate this literati who contributed greatly to the nation. The park is situated near the Shuitou Wharf in Shuitou Village, and due to its higher elevation, it provides a panoramic view of the Shuitou Wharf. In addition, one can gaze upon Little Kinmen, the mainland, and the Jinlie Waterway. Within the park, there is a pavilion surrounded by Casuarina trees and two-leaf pine forests. In the center of the pavilion is a stele inscribed by former President Chiang Kai-shek that reads "Wu Zhihui Memorial Pavilion for Sea Burial." A statue of Mr. Wu Zhihui stands near the seaside of the park, making it a great place to relax while enjoying the ocean view.
