Wu Chih-hui Memorial Park Introduction

Located beside the Shuitou Wharf, this park offers a clear view of the vessels entering and exiting Shuitou Harbor. The park is shaded by lush greenery and features a memorial inscription personally penned by General Chiang Kai-shek, along with a bronze statue of Mr. Wu Zhihui. Mr. Wu, whose courtesy name was Jingheng, was a renowned Confucian scholar from Wujin, Jiangsu, highly respected by the people and a mentor to Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo. Mr. Wu passed away on October 30, 1953, in Taipei, and before his death, he requested to be buried at sea in the waters off Kinmen. On December 1 of the same year, Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo personally escorted his ashes to Kinmen, where he was buried at sea in Shuitou Bay. The Wu Zhihui Memorial Park was established to honor this literary figure who contributed to the country. The park, located at Shuitou Village near Shuitou Wharf, is elevated, providing a comprehensive view of the wharf. Additionally, it offers vistas of Little Kinmen, mainland China, and the Jinsha Waterway. Within the park, there is a pavilion surrounded by Casuarina trees and two-leaf pines. At the center of the pavilion stands a monument titled "Wu Zhihui Memorial Pavilion," inscribed by former President Chiang Kai-shek. The park also features a bronze statue of Mr. Wu overlooking the sea, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the maritime scenery.
