Wu Chih-hui Memorial Park Introduction
Located next to the Shuitou Pier, it offers a clear view of the ships coming in and out of Shuitou Harbor. The park is shaded by green foliage and features a commemorative plaque inscribed by Chiang Kai-shek, along with a statue of Mr. Wu Zhihui. Mr. Wu Zhihui, courtesy name Jingheng, was a Confucian master from Wujin, Jiangsu, highly respected by the people and was the teacher of Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo. On October 30, 1953, Wu Zhihui passed away in Taipei, and before his death, he requested to be buried at sea in the waters of Kinmen. On December 1 of the same year, Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo personally escorted his ashes to Kinmen, where he was buried at sea in Shuitou Bay, and the Wu Zhihui Memorial Park was established here to commemorate this scholar who contributed greatly to the nation. Wu Zhihui Park is located beside Shuitou Pier in Shuitou Village, and since the park is elevated, it provides a panoramic view of the Shuitou Pier. Additionally, you can also gaze upon Little Kinmen, the mainland, and the Jinlie Channel. Inside the park, there is a pavilion surrounded by Casuarina equisetifolia and pine trees, providing ample shade. In the center of the pavilion stands the memorial stone "Wu Zhihui Pavilion for Sea Burial" inscribed by the former President Chiang Kai-shek. There is also a statue of Mr. Wu Zhihui by the seaside, making it a great spot for coastal relaxation.
