Mingyi Old Street Introduction
Ming Yi Old Street is located outside the North Gate of Jinmen City and has a history of over four hundred years, making it the oldest street in Jinmen. The low-rise street houses are lined up on both sides, and the street originally had barricades at all four exits: east, west, south, and north. Ming Yi Old Street was once a bustling marketplace in Jinmen City, and the locals also refer to this place as "Vegetable Buying Street." As Jinmen shifted from being a political and economic center in the Qing Dynasty to Hupo, the street gradually fell into decline. To preserve the memories of Jinmen's first street, three buildings on Ming Yi Old Street have been transformed into a story museum, showcasing the lifestyles of common people in the past, with detailed descriptions of beliefs, agriculture, and daily living. Huang Tianyou Memorial Hall: Mr. Huang Tianyou went to Singapore to study medicine at a young age and returned to Jinmen to settle at the age of twenty-nine. He originally rented a place on Model Street to practice, later moving back to a Western-style house in Jinmen City to continue his medical practice. He passed away at the age of forty-one due to intestinal inflammation, leaving behind three sons, a daughter, and his second wife, Chen Qingshou, to take care of this Western-style house. The house has aged and is in disrepair, leaking when it rains. The eldest son of Chen Qing built a new modern residence next to the Western-style house, while hoping that the government could provide funds for repairs to prevent it from collapsing.
