Ming Yi Old Street Introduction
MIng Yi Old Street is located outside the North Gate of Jinmen City and has a history of over four hundred years, known as the oldest street in Jinmen. The low street houses are lined up on both sides, and there were originally barriers at the exits in all directions of the street. Ming Yi Old Street was once a bustling market in Jinmen City, colloquially known by locals as "Vegetable Street." As Jinmen transitioned from being the political and economic center during the early Qing dynasty to Houlun, it gradually fell into decline. To preserve the memories of Jinmen's first street, three buildings on Ming Yi Old Street have been converted into a storytelling center, showcasing the daily lives of common people in the past, with detailed descriptions of beliefs, farming, and daily living. Huang Tian-You Memorial Hall: Mr. Huang Tian-You went to Singapore to study medicine at a young age and returned to settle in Jinmen at the age of twenty-nine. He initially rented a house on Model Street to practice medicine, before moving back to the Western-style building in Jinmen City. He passed away at forty-one due to enteritis, leaving behind three sons and one daughter, along with his second wife, Chen Qing, to take care of the building. The building has fallen into disrepair over the years, leaking when it rains. Chen Qing's eldest son built a new-style residence next to the building, while the old building, rich with memories, hopes for government assistance for renovation to avoid the fate of collapse.
